Nice pet boy you got there, oconor :D.

@Chili: Do you have administrator access to the BBS database? I'm curious what the date is of of the first post/thread in this BBS. I know the front page of this site claims a start of 1995, but for some reason I seem to remember it being said that the BBS actually started in 1999. If that's the case, this one may be almost as far back to the Big Bang as we can look. It would be fun to track that, though, and see if the record can be beat. NOTE: No purposely looking back and pulling up old threads allowed. There are ways of telling when that's done. ;)

I was wondering the same thing... A software based drum machine? Do they exist???
I was about to type a "What in the world are you talking about and where have you been?" post... Then I saw the date. :D

i use to use a roommates apple sound studio and record noises from movies and tweak them to set up some percussion rather than drums that was a real hellish nightmare but it was quite neat in some of the results. i just started to try drum software and so far i notice you can only set a repeating parameter that you have to manually tweak every time rather than set up a 5 minute intricate varying drum beat. maybe i'm wrong as i just started. but so far i think i'll have to record parts and mix them in a sound studio to get something more interesting.

standalone free drum machine software

Something like Hammerhead is good for quickly knocking out short loops and patterns, it's good for what it is, but very limited in so many ways: it doesn't let you easily use whatever .wav files you want (it ought to be as easy as plonking them in a folder and they should automatically become selectable in the channels), you can't chain patterns into a complete song, it provides no synthesis and EQ options, it only offers two or three effects, it doesn't go to 32nd notes, only has 6 channels, can't be driven from midi beat clock from a DAW or external sequencer etc etc. That's why I developed FlexibeatzII: flexibeatz dot weebly dot com. It's a small file and quick install, capable and free. You can hear music I did ONLY with it (and in some cases a little tweaking in Audacity) at myspace dot com/flexibeatz
