I like it man.

A few things you might want to look at...

Either bring everything besides the vocals up just a TAD or take your vocals down just a little bit, just to make everything else sound more balanced.

The vocals are in a very different style, but they fit the song quite well I think. They would benefit from having some effects put on them I think to sort of give them a different feel, like maybe some compression, or a tiny bit of distortion or chorus.

The backing harmonies in the pre-chorus part of the chorus part or whatever it is, sound really cool.

Maybe bring the overhead mics on the drums up a bit, or bring the hi-hat mic up a tad, as well as raising the level of everything else a tad. Add a bit more reverb to the snare (and most other things on the drums for experimentation) just to see if you can get more of an open feel, which I think would fit the song well.

These aren't really things I think are necesarily wrong with your recording. I think it is very good, but you could just try a few of these things out to see if it changes it up in a good way.

Keep up the good stuff man. :)

Hey, thanx for the replies guys!

l'll definitely have a look at all those things. What I wanted with the voice was to have it really "in your face". Yeah the cymbals on the whole are a bit too low....for the snare I was looking for a dry sound, to kind of make it sound like a small space, but I'll check the reverb again, plenty you can do with Addictive Drums.

Thanks again!

Sounds cool. I like the style on this. What did you use for the background chorus sounding vocals around 1:25?

One thing I noticed, there really isn't a whole lot of high end with this mix. It sounds alright though. Usually the vocals and cymbals make up a good amount of the high end and air sound. The guitars and bass seem to sound fine. Maybe the guitars could use a tad more bite to them.

Over all very cool song though.

Hi Monkeymanx!
Thanks for the comments!
Regarding your question about the background Vocals: do you mean what equipment or effects I used? I record voices with a Studio Projects B1 and put a slight chorus effect and reverb on them.
Overall the sound I was looking for with this song was a very confined space, kind of "rubber room and strait-jacket", maybe that's why the high-end seems to be less.

Cheers
Joe

Hi

I like the song a lot. I do prefer the first mix though. I think there is too much stuff on the vocals and drums on the second mix.

Nice work.

Thanx Jack!
Guess it would be a good idea to let it go for a while and listen to it in a couple of weeks so I'll have fresh ears...
