parameter eq in calkwalk

How is that when I eq on Calkwalk using the parameter eq fuction and I lower a certain frequency on a track, it pops and clips at certain areas on the track. How is that even possible? If I lower the gain, wouldn't it not distort or clip?

I think Gidman has your answer.

If the track is clipped before you apply the EQ, lowering the setting will not get rid of the clip. It'll just make the volume lower.

If it's not clipped before you apply the EQ, than the problem is most likely that adding in the effect is starting to tax your system resources.

I think the resource that is most taxed by realtime FX is your RAM. However, maybe someone else may want to comment on that further.

If the pops and clicks are there before its definately the harddrive.
I had to buy a new one to replace my snail 5400 rpm.
Most systems come with 5400 unless otherwise specified and 5400 rpm will not totally support multi-track audio.
Thus the pops and clicks.

Maxtor diamond max 7200 rpm 40 gig...
Under 200 bucks
not too expensive , not hard to install.

Maxtor diamond max 10000 rpm 60 gig...
under 600 bucks...

There are many reasons why you might be getting clicks and pops, so don't assume it has to be the hard drive. Run a benchmark utility on your drive first before you get a new one. Cakewalk's website has info about all this; try all the stuff they suggest:

Agreed Alchuck,

There is a misconception about the spindle speeds on hard drives
and it definitely has no correlation with recording audio. The faster spindle speeds add more stability to the transfer rates.
The transfer rates are getting faster as result of better design not just simply increased spindle speed alone.
