..awlright..... I just got through going through a month long struggle trying to clean up a problem w/ the network i was using for dial-up service (msn). Evidently, my computer fell in a void between their upgrades...and for some dumbass reason, my e-mail would no workee. After much sweat and cussin', I just changed networks (to earthlink)..... all was fine...... until......
Yesterday we went out and bought a new dig camcorder. ...Well, you know, I had to buy some editing software so that my rock videos would be all profesh and shit .....I install the software..... ....and poof..... my modem is not longer there. The FARKIN 'puter no longer recognizes my modem..... I performed all of the troubleshooting tests......... no help. Now i have editing software i dont know how to use..... AND NO INTERNET connection at home...........AAAAAAAGGGGGGGFFFHHHHHHHHGGGG!!!!!!
......any ideas on a remedy?

If you're using a version of Windows ME or 2000, you might be able to use the "System Restore" function, which saves my ass about 12 times a week. Since it happened right after you installed your software, it almost has to be a fucked up system file.

Tell me what OS you're using.


(and thanks for the yard tip...I'm going out today to get one; does it involve dynamite, or is it some kind of manual tool, lol).

well, i'm late to the thread but:

chris, sorry about the hand and jailtime. (note to self: don't EVER press down the garbage with hand) that really sucks. i broke the knuckle on my middle finger a couple of years ago and they had to splint it upright for about six weeks. so i was permanently flipping everyone off while recovering (which took another year to regain the full mobility after the splint was removed) and that helped with the anger. maybe your doctor can do something similar with yours.

g, sorry about the computer. i thought you were going to build a new one. when you do, install windows xp. it rules, especially with digital camcorders.

crawdad, sorry but my homework for the HC challange is going to be late. gear has been unplugged for roughly three weeks now. building a vocal booth so when i do finish i'll post a cover of something with vocals dryer than all y'alls dead grass.

kramer, my grass is currently buried under six inches of snow. i did finally use my snowblower this winter though!

Hey man, if you can't do the system restore, then you can always go into the control panel and "ADD NEW HARDWARE" to see if your computer is seeing your modem. If it's got a little exclamation point after it, then you need to reinstall the driver probably. And if it's showing up just fine with no punctuation, then just run the "connect to the internet" program conveniently located in your Internet Explore Browser, b/c it's probably just your connection settings.

And no matter what, don't write back and say it's a Mac, lol.

LMAO ....Its a yard tool. Kind of a long prong with a claw at the end. I got one last weekend, and weeded my whole front yard in about an hour (and I had a boatload). Doesnt do too much damage either. ...Im gonna build a stand for mine, and set it next to my bass

Chris is right.System Restore is the way to go.Just like Chris it saves my ass about 15 times a month.

If you dont know where it is just click on Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore

Keep in mind that any software you installed after the date that you choose to restore back to will be gone.You'll probably have to re-install that shitty editing software that killed your modem to start with.LMAO!

I have a shit load of weeds too.They usually die off by themself a few weeks into spring after moxing and weed eating them a few times.The grass actually needs mowing again right now.We've gotten right at 6 inches of rain in 5 days and thats making everything grow.Not to mention temps into the high 80's already.Well,I think I'll go play Hank Hill and ride on my Mower for a little while.

I cut the tip of my left pointing finger off about 20 years ago while changing a lightbulb (same time I stopped playing music). It was dead as a doornail for about six months but the feeling eventually came back. It's still little numb on the side but not very noticable.

Hopefully everything will work out OK.

LOL.I wouldnt trash the software....maybe something just got screwed with the modem that didnt have anything to do with that software.....just re-install it again after you get your modem back up and running and see what happens...if it does it again just do another system restore........and THEN throw it in the trash.

fyi, if you upgrade to winxp, it comes with software for connecting with your digital camcorder that's pretty much idiot proof. not to mention winxp is about a zillion times more stable than win ME. i don't work for microsoft.

Hey, have you guys noticed that all of the "preferences" in the clinic have totally flipped. Here are the new rules:

1. HUUUUUGE panning of toms is great.
2. AUTOTUNE is cool
3. Limiting the entire mix to about one hundreth of a db below clipping is the only way to record.

I'm sure there are others that I've missed.
