Pacific vs Gretsch Drums

I'm in search of a budget priced 5 piece kit for my home studio, and have narrowed it down to Pacific Birch series or the Gretsch Catalina kit. Anyone play either or both of these? Opinions? I've also seen a few Gretsch Renowns for sale used for around 5-600 (my price range). I know, it's a matter of taste, but quality wise, what is the lowdown between the 2. Thoughts?

P.S. I got a 7-piece pacific CX Maple for 450 used with cymbals. (that's 5 toms, snare, and kick, and the cymbals are paiste 802 hats and 10" splash, 16" zildjian ZBT, and 22" sabian dry ride)
