PA/speakers/a couple equipment questions.

so my rap group is trying to play more shows, and i'm gonna get a PA to make things easier.

anyone have speaker suggestions? amp suggestions? I'd like somethin pretty powerful, and that can bump...

I think I can get a pair of yamaha s215v's (club series) for a decent price...if that's still the case i'll grab them. but i still am not sure what amp to get, if i get those speakers...

anyone else got ideas though?
 
To get any real 'bump' you're gonna need a subwoofer.
 
Since Rap is tends to be so bass heavy, you're probably better off with a pair of 15"+1" cabinets and two pairs of 18" subs.


You need 1.5x the RMS rating to properly power the cabinets.

So, if the speaker is rated 300 watts @ 8 ohms, then you need 450 watts @ 8 ohms to correctly power the speaker.

tim, perfect...that's what i was lookin for.

budget...500-800 i suppose...

so here's a question then though...the speakers are rated at 500/1000/2000 (noise, program, peak).... does you know what program means? andyway if it's 2000 peak that should mean about 1400 rms if i'm right...

does that mean i needs to find 2kw rms amp? seems like that'll be expensive for me, haha. Can I just buy any of those yamaha amps that are meant for the club series? even the ones that are rated much lower?
 
I found some used Turbosound cabinets for just outside of that price range. The problem is that you will also need a 4 way amp rack and a good crossover. Quality between the two however isn't even remotely comparable.

Program is what you can expect the speakers to take over the long-term playing regular music through them, like CDs and performers.

It doesn't matter what size amp you get if you are careful and don't clip it. You just won't be getting all you can out of the speakers.
