Hyperthreading 3GHz or Athlon XP 3200+ ?
Thanks
Shakuan said:I would recommend the Athlon... but not the one you mentionned.
Dual Athlon MP 2400+ will get you more power than a single Athlon64 3200+... and its nearly half the price.
Check the prices in canada:
AMD ATHLON64 3200+ 2.00G 1M $629.00
AMD ATHLON MP 2400+ PGA T-BRED BOX $189.00
Of course the software you use to record might not be able to take advantage of dual processors... but at least it's gonna let you run a couple programs togheter without slowing you down.
Athlon64 3200+ is like a porshe...
Dual Athlon MP 2400+ is like a hummer. The hummer lets you do stuff you wouldnt even think about with a porsche, but it's slower.
Anyways, I think it's more bang for the bucks.

gilwe said:Strange.... at the HardwareCentral forum they all recommended my of the Pentium....
I once heard the AMD CPU's have additional function to be implemented while using multimedia software, the the Pentium lacks of. what is it all about ... ?
If you mean by this: "Does one cpu sound better than the other?" then the answer is: No.gilwe said:Yeh that was it.... but does this feature lets audio recorders make a better sound reproduction ?
Polaris20 said:I totally disagree. Many programs out there for audio aren't coded to take advantage of dual processors, the any performance advantage is lost, and you're left with 2400+ performance when you just bought two chips.
Being able to run two programs together isn't the reason to buy dual processors.

You need to start doing more things than just playing solitaire with your PC man.
Btw win98, ME or XP Home will not take advantage of dual cpu. WinXP Pro will tho.
So if you use xp pro with nuendo for exemple, dual cpu will help you alot. Especially if you really USE your system.
Btw, if dual cpu wouldnt help, why would Intel develop HT?... HT is just a virtual dual cpu.
Here is some information about Hyper-Threading, I think you really should read it all.

Anyways, I'm not here to convert anyone to dual, I was just giving another option to gilwe. When you can have dual 2400+ for 370$ or 3200+ for 630$, it's more economic to go dual and it's gonna give you a pretty solid box for recording. (and even more than single 3200+ imo.)
Polaris20 said:Sorry, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to disagree with anyone.
Thanks for clearing that up.
Polaris20 said:I really don't think that most "home recording" enthusiasts need dual processors, even with those apps that take advantage of them.
Usually two tiers from the top of the line, such as the 2800+ AMD is pretty sufficient, IMO.
But your mileage may vary, and as always, it's just my opinion.
BTW I am fully aware of what Hyperthreading is, I'm not an idiot.
