I want to purchase some quality overheads that are in this price range. Which would you recommend?

Also, I have seen two versions of the C1000s mics. The original silver ones and recently (less expensive) black version (same model #) at guitar center. Is there a difference?

I use the silver c1000's as overheads for my drum booth and absolutely love them. I've got a handful of them and find them to be the "SM-57" of condensers. Wonderful for instrument miking and back-up group miking. I haven't tried the black models, but I have used a pair of Octava with the interchangable capsules...very cool mics and a bargain. Would I replace my C1000's with them, probably not. But I will be adding a pair..at that price why not?

The NT-3's OWN the c1000s's... I tell you from pure experience..

The MC012's are a tad more expencieve, and I haven't tried those yet. But in the NT-3 / c1000s I have to say the NT-3 is the definite winner.. not saying the c1000s is a bad mic...

drunk.. outta here.. bye

If U buy the Oktava MC012's (buy from the Soundroom only. http://www.oktava.com ) they may cost more, but you are getting A MUCH BETTER MIC. For starters the MC012 has 4 interchangible patterns(omni, cardiod, hyper cardiod and -10db capsule),and these mics can be used for a lot more than just overheads fer drums.....

So do yourself a favour and get a nice matched pair of these. Hopefully Recording Engineer will come along and tell U more about em =)

Well.. RE doesn't really have to show up to do that... Just perform a search on the MC012's. There are plenty of posts where he plugs the Octavas...

The octavas rule in this comparison. I have used them for overheads, guitar amps, acoustic guitars. Yes the c1000s and nt-3s are still good mics for the price, the ocktava just plain beats them.
