Hey all,

When overdubbing drums over a guide track/click, it seems that things get quite loud having to hear the track over the drums in the room. The drums are loud enough by themselves, and I'd like to protect my hearing. Any advice about using earplugs/phones etc?

Thanks,

JD

As the one normally drumming and doing the engineering I have found 2 invaluable things.

On the cheap, some of those hearing protector headsets (for construction or gun shooting) work great in conjunction with some of those ear bud type earphones.

A more elegant but more expensive fix is some headphones from Radio Shack. They are the ones used at the race tracks for monitoring radios and such during the race, the cost about $60. They are mono but they have a volume contriol and a very high degree of isolation. I love them. If I could only keep my Drummer son from borrowing them!

They are well worth the price of saving your ears.

Great suggestions!

Wow - good stuff. I actually have a pair of gun mufflers and some ear buds. I've actually used that combo when on long airplane trips, but forgot about that for some reason. I'll try that for a while and maybe look into a more comfortable option later.

Thanks!
