Great work, hermano! I agree completely on Greg's appreciation. But man, let me tell you. You rock completely on those guitars and vocals. I don't know why the hell you are not on tour with a major band. I don't understand it. :)

Hey Alex, long time no see...!
That's your kick-drum on this....;)
Well, I guess no major band has ever needed me right now, but I'm pretty happy recording for myself and sharing it with my friends here. But if I had a band I'd just sing and leave the guitar playing to a real guitarrist....:D
I'll be reviewing the drum sounds, though...don't wanna disappoint Greg, now, do we?
Gracias y paz, hermano! :)

New mix!

Ok...I've tried to solve the issue with the drumsound. Thanx to Marcadiablo's help with new samples, I've changed the kick , snare, hihat, and cymbals, and tried to give the bass some more definition.

Hope you guys can tell me if it sounds better or not. ;)

Joey :)

Joey,
Hot remix.
The new samples are spot on, though I'd offer that the bass drum sample is a bit full on in the intro. It fits really well when couched in the arrangement but solo at the front it's a bit big'n'fat'n'naked.
It a monster track by the way - I'm rather looking forward to the new Mizzi CD.
You write excellent lyrics: even more so when they reflect your personal passion - this one of frustration with the denizens of the 9 to 5 world, the lovely song for your dad are examplars.
Oh, & that Iommi Epi SG is, as we are wont to say in moments down under - UNROOOOL.

Your lyrics aren't half bad too, though...;) I'm looking forward to our next cooperative attempt. It's funny how inspired one can get when one feels cornered like a rat.
I can never stop saying how much i love my little Vampyra.....:D

These samples are better Joey. I'm thinking the snare is pretty good, but there's still something weird about the kick. I'm sorry, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I might just be that it's a little too loud/present. This song has enough space for - dare I say - a softer, more natural kick sound. Something with some shell resonance and body to it. Think of like a modern Bonham kick sound. Or, just drop what you got back into the mix a hair and it might fit better. I know I said I'd like the kick and snare to drive the song, but now the kick is kidnapping the whole thing. :p

The cymbals are still pretty sizzly and glassy sounding to me. Maybe it's the MP3 compression, but what I DL'd is @ 192 - not great but not terrible. I also think maybe more reverb experimentation might glue the drums and song together a little better. Something about the reverb in the intro sounds tinny and artificial - like everything is in a metal room. That may be contributing to the overall sizzle of the cymbals. Just my 2 cents bro. :)

Thanx Greg, really appreciate it!
I'll check the whole thing out with fresh ears ;)

I listened to the stream then downloaded - there's a big diff even at 192 between the two.
I look forward to hearing this is full wav glory.
It works a treat.
Thanks!

You've got a lot of different guitars on this and I love the sound of every one of them. Great vocals too. What's your guitar set-up?

Goodness, that's crunchy. The only thing I heard that I'd even touch jumped out right away; I'd dry out the kick by at least half, it's a little artificial at that level of saturation. I don't think I'd mess with anything else. This one's right in the strike zone, man.

Thanx Ray....first copy reserved for you!;):)

Yeah the problem with that kick is that the verb is already on the sample, but it's the one I like best, so I've tried to work it in Battery to try to shorten the tail. Appreciate your comments.
:):)
