I don't think its the center piece. I think it is more likely that the table is not aligned well (maybe got messed up in shipping). you say it is an easy fix?

I have determined that it must be the reel table and not the shaft. this is because the plastic reels seem to move back and forth. if the shaft were bent, they would just not be paralell to the face, but they would rotate evenly. it must be the table, because the rotation is not even. the right side is messed up pretty bad too; the tape bangs up on the reel. but it does not seem to affect the right tension arm. this is probably because of the direction of flow of the tape. so about this "easy" fix??? also, fast forward works again (with the smaller reels). not sure what that's about. I think whatever is driving the right side might be weak?

OK, these Otaris come with (2) adjusting pads (rubber-mat) that you mount between reel and hub-adaptor.
I would suggest trying with another take-up reel first and see what it does.
If the reel-table are damaged, you can buy a used one and replace it very easy.

the seller was very cool and is going to replace it for me. hopefully from then on it will be smooth rolling. made me re-think my choice though; should have gotten a bII with "direct drive".

The MX50 is a very nice machine. If you can get it up and running it is a better choice than many other options.

I answered a question about the wobbly hubs in another thread, but I thought they were the large NAB type. If you just have 7" reels directly on the reel table then yeah changing those should solve the problem. You should have no regrets.

you mean changing the reel tables will solve the problem?

the 7" reels are preformed plastic I doubt changing them will make a difference. As for regrets, I just want radio quality. and I want to be able to take advantage of some natural compression on mixdown. and I want the image to be nice and wide and phat. thats all..
