i've heard about them and i really wanna try them out, but i have never seen one at GC or any other store. im wondering if anyone has ever played one?

no, no one has. orange amps don't excist, they are just a myth.

The color really isn't that important.

that's correct. ones had a green amp. painted it black. still sounds the same.

also look into Matamp (if you live in England as they do not mass manufacture/market large wattage amps here in the States) and Electric Amps. Electric are new built amps that have very close to the original Orange design. All are reputed to have heavy rock tone. I would not know as I haven't enough money to play any of the three.

Orange

Oranges do exist, But you have to buy orange eyeglasse too, like the one John lennon used. In fact, I read in some music magazine that the Orange amps came from Lennon. That's a myth!
Anyway, you can get some information here:

Don't they look cool?
Orange head
Orange combo

I've seen quite a few bands that were using Orange and even the old Matamp GREEN amps. They seem to sound good. If I had some money, I'd probably look into grabbing one up.

Here's two of the bands I can think of that used them off the top of my head:

The Charms

Good ole rock n roll.

Zoroaster

-they were pretty damn loud - it started to sound like i was underwater later in the set. Luckily they would kind of take a minute between songs to rest everyone's ears to the sweet sound of tons o' feedback. It was good.

Anyway, check those links for some sounds.

actualy, orange amps have the reputation of being pretty awesome. i played an orange crush and that sounded sweet but it doesn't count i suppose since it's a small modelling solid state and not one of their big valva beasts.

Lead guitar player for Three dog night used one back in the 70,s on their stuff.

No, you're wrong Herm, I used to carry his gear, and he was a Gibson Falcon man!

Just Kidding Herm!!! GGun and I are the only ones here who ever saw Wishbone Ash!!!

ps, sorry I hijacked this thread

I have played a friends Orange 412 with Vintage 30's in it and it sounds amazing for every type of music I have played through it. The heads are really good for clean channel but I wouldn't use it for anything else. Just my opinion.

I recognized Andy immediately. I guess that makes me a card-carrying Old Fart. ;^)

I went to see them cold, not having a clue as to who they were, in 1971. Blew me away. Andy (Powell, Gibson Flying V)) and Ted (Turner, Strat) were something to see.

They still tour, but Andy is the only original member left.

Hell, yeah that's my dream amp. I played different models a few times. My god there great good ol amps. Plus if you get the higher wattage versions you can slap the 2x12 on top and get even more. I've also seen alot of people use them in conjuntion with other amp setups.

especially bands with 1 guitar player.

they are pretty expensive, but hell I don't need a crappy car I need a good amp.
