My Vox just took a shit on me. Valvtronix 2x12 100watter. It was cutting in and out, I'd just smack it on top and It would come back in, smacked it yesterday and now nothing.......

The tone was acceptable.....but.......I don't really need or use the amp modeling to much, just the clean and the UK 80's mode......the only effect built in digital effect I ever used was the auto wah.

So instead of getting it fixed, I'm going to get a new amp. And I want the best of both worlds. Great Clean and hi gain......

Suggestions? I don't gig any more, just record and jam with friends at the house. I play classic rock and old school metal.

Mesa Boogie 1x ,2x, or 3x rectifier?

Marshall Plexi or JCM 800? I don't need a ton of power, a 50 watter will do, I think? Combo or 1/2 stack doesn't matter to me, I won't be moving it much. trying to stick to a budget of say 1,500.

All guitar center carries is Fender and Egnater or Line 6. Out of the 3 the Egnater would be the choice, but it doesn't really hit me.

Any suggestions for a music store in Chicago?

So how much you wanna spend?

Oh yeah, thought I put that in there, around 1,500.00

I was looking at the Carvin's, but the V3 with the vintage speakers. I've never played through one, don't know any one with one, don't know what they sound like.

I missed it if you had the price in there. Great clean, high gain, 1500 bucks. Well that's about any quality 2 channel amp. I've been researching a lot of amps lately. Pretty much all of them will do that. You need to get your hands on some and try em out. A Plexi or JCM800 would be a bad choice. I love marshalls, but those are neither high gain or do great cleans. Other marshalls can do it though. The DSL and JVM series Marshalls do both very well. Better than a Mesa or Orange or Carvin or Egnater or Rivera or H&K? ....that's for you to decide.

Hi,

I would recommend

Bogner Alchemist

I checked this one out in a shop today and liked it a lot. It sounds very nice on both channels. It has reverb, delay, boost - everything controlled with the footswitch, very flexible when you play. I tested this with two guitars 52 american telecaster reissue and some Washburn. Sounded cool with both guitars very nice vintage clean and overdrive for Tele and modern highgain with Wasgburn hot pickups.

I really recommend to try this one

Cheerz!!

you could always get a vox head of some kind and use the cab of your valvetronix for it. cutting a 1/4" guitar cable in half and getting handy whatchimacallits from radio shack will make it painless.

Never use a guitar cable to power a speaker. It's not designed to carry the current.

I've had this validated by both Trace and JerryP in the past (FJA mods, and Voodoo amps/mods).

Anyhow, high gain and versital I would snag a 2 ch dual rect.

alrighty smart guys, then why are they used to connect heads to cabs?

Lol. Seriously? Speaker cables are used. They look like instrument cables, but they're not shielded and made to carry more signal. Speaker cables for speakers, instrument cables for instruments. They look the same, but they're totally different. I know, I just blew your mind.

Mind definitely blown.

Pulled the trigger,

Ordered me a Carvin V3 1/2 stack w/ vintage 30's. I expect it to arrive in a couple weeks. I will give a review shortly after ;)

During my search, I played a 100 watt marshall 1/2 stack didn't really care for it, forget which model, it was around 1k. Played a Hughes & Kettner tube miester 18 watt through a few different Randall 4-12 cabs, and a couple Diamond heads thru the same Randall cabs. The Diamonds sounded great, but I could only affornd the mini heads, the 18 watters. they sounded very good, but the store I was at was trying to rape me. I could get one online for several hundred less.

After watching alot of you tube videos and reading reviews, I decided to get the Carvin.

I have that little Diamond head. The Assassin. It's a little monster. Congrats on your new purchase.
