Hello... I'm a new member as u can see :) but i'm a forum reader for some time...

I have an Audigy 2 which is OK for recording (Not great) but What a latency my GOD!!! Its great for DVDs, Games & Soundfonts...

Now I need to get a new Sound Card.. I did my sear.......

maybe i should tell you what I need... I'll record only one Instrument at a time (guitar, bass, some keyboards, maybe vocals) but no drums... so I think i need only 2 mono Inputs.. right?

where i was,.. ah... I did my search and I found out that the best cards for my price range and needs are the Audiophile 2496 and Echo Mia... but the 2496 has unbalanced ins.. so i think that the Mia is a better choise..

Echo mia vs Delta 44... delta has 2 extra ins and outs that possible i wont need them but balanced ins.. therfore it doesnt have S/PDIF ... which i'll need if i get the Podxt Pro

Another problem is that the Echo mia isnt imported to Greece...

So what do u think..
1. i shoul get the 2496 and Podxt Pro and use the S/PDIF
2. get the Delta and and Podxt (non Pro) and use the Balanced
3. try to find and get the exho mia from another country
4. Is there any other good card that has 2 Balanced i/o ans S/PDIF (I dont care about midi.. i have the Audigy for that).. get that?

and Finally (oh a long post) do u think i shoul get the Podxt Pro/ or non Pro?

thanx in advance

A couple of thoughts....

I'd lean, personally, toward the Delta 44 simply because I have experience with it, and I liked it. It does have balanced TRS ins. But you have concerns, primarily surrounding the S/PDIF and the Pod ProXT.

Does the ProXT REQUIRE S/PDIF, or is it just a feature that it offers? I don't expect you'll experience any loss going from the 1/4" outs (balanced or unbalanced?) of the ProXT into the Delta 44. (of course, that will use a channel or two of the 44.) I would be WAY surprised if the proXT worked only with S/PDIF out.

Does your audigy have S/PDIF in? It's a decent card (though you have learned its limitations), and these days, even the on-board "soundcard" that came as part of my motherboard has S/PDIF in. (or is it out?? ...sorry.... maybe typing without thinking, but either way, I have no idea in the world what most consumers would use it for....) If you're keeping the audigy anyway, and if it has S/PDIF, then hey....

Another option is the Delta 66. It is exactly the same card as the Delta 44, only with S/PDIF in, and out (I think).

I'm pretty sure that the pod has analog outs too but from my experience with a Digitech Genesis 3 + M-audio Delta 410, I'd say using digital i/o is recommended. Maybe it's just that the Digitechs analog outs aren't that good but I get much lower noise levels when using spdif.

just my 2 cents

Hi Chris and thanx for your responce..

I firstly "bowed" for Delta and thought that the extra 2 inputs will come handy someday.. I now have the V-amp2 (which is a great Unit BTW) and the Balanced Inputs are all i need..

but i'm planing to take the Pod XT (Pro or non Pro) because it feels more bright and more pro to me, also has better fx... so i want to make the most of it.. the Pro has S/PDIF among with other output capacity thats why i concern more about it.. I dont know though if the S/PDIF will give me better quality..

No, the podxt has balanced outputs and the pro version of it has in addition the S/PDIF, XLR and etc...

Yes, the audigy has S/PDIF and I'll keep it for DVDs Games and Soundfonts.. but what is better the S/PDIF of the Audigy or the Balanced TSR of the Delta??!! thats what i'm looking for..

Yes.. its true but the Delta 66, in greece costs 120+ euro more and get out of my price range..

again.. thanx for your response and thanx in advance for any other responce...

yes podxt has analog balanced outs... does the genesis has balanced outs? maybe the noise is due to the unbalanced outputs.. but i dont know just wondering...

how do u like the Digitech.. i had a Digitech multifx pedal RP7 with valve preams but i didnt like it (was a lot time ago) but i dont know about the Genesis... is it any good? compared to Pod xt or V-amp2??

The G3 is a cool piece of gear but I must say that I don't have much experience with any other amp modeler. I'm primarily a bass player and just wanted an(y) amp modeler to play some electric guitar on the side. I just bought one (off ebay for a very good price compared to european prices) after reading about every review on amp modelers that I could find..
The outputs are unbalanced by the way.
