WELCOME TO ROCK AND ROLL

Kick ass! Love the guitar tone and wide separation. Love the thick kick drum and the fact that the snare is loud. The song itself is not bad, probably too busy for my tastes, and I do like heavy music.

Vocals are above average, but don't match the skill of the other instruments. Sorry.. Also, the big reverb on the vocals sounds out of place. I'd drop the reverb completely, add some compression, and bring those vocals right up front. Also seems like the vocal volume isn't too consistent. Not sure about the vocal "melody" around 2/3 of the way in.

Love the instrumentation and the recording is excellent. Not a fan of the vocals. Well done!

The rock mix......not bad. Guitars sound good and meaty. Bass rumbles nicely. The kick has this weird clik to it that sounds like clipping. That's not good. The snare can be louder. I don't know of any instance in rock that you'd want the kick louder than the snare. Some of the tom fills sound robotic. Overall not bad though.

The song really misses the mark with me. Too chuggy, disheveled, choppy, whatever you wanna call it. Too busy. I kept wanting it to start really rocking with a more steady beat, but it never did. :(

Pretty good song,
Like the guitars a lot, the mix is pretty good too, but I have to agree with Greg. It just seemed like it was about to break into something else, but never did. Please don't take offense, you've done a much better job all around than I could ever do. I like the vocals, they match the song & the guitar tones (to me anyway) Good job!

I think all in all it was a good song. I thought the guitars was a bit loud in some places. The drum sounds ok, but I would brighten the cymbals if you can. I listened on cheap speaks so I might be off bass. Good luck.

Pretty good mix. Solid guitar performance.
Songwise, I kept waiting for a chorus with a hookline to complement the nice riffing. Also, the vocal sounds a bit pitchy in places. I would go back and review some parts. Pretty good though, you seem to know what you're doing.

Joey :):):):)

Idunno.....I liked everything about it. Some songs just are what they are. And I think this one is real good. I wasn't analyzing it...just got aboard and took a ride...heart pounding a little faster. When I get that reaction, and everything knits and sounds right.....it's right!

The recording sounds better to my ears than a lot of similar stuff done at, like, real famous studios and stuff. I like your ears and vision for the mix.

Don't be afraid to make what you hear. Go outside the box....or you'll sound like everybody else. Great successes are grown from new sounds concepts. Like, U2 wuz kind of a wierd band with strange recordings....y' know?

Pretty cool. Love the guitar sound. When the guitar drops out and the bass is playing, I like the general tone but I would have liked it to have a more pummeling sound (thicker and louder maybe)?

to me, the vocals come off as way too loud, and i'd agree with the previous statement that the reverb is a bit much

i know you want them to be front and center, but i'd be damned if they don't jump right out and stomp on the rest of the mix

i would also personally bring the snare and OH's up a db or 2, but i guess that's just a preference thing...

Cool, thanks everybody. Anyone else think the vocals were too loud? I didn't really think so. In fact I think I need to go in and ride them a bit where they get drowned out...

I do think the snare could go up some, but the vox? Any other opinions on that one?

Final mix coming soon...

Did you mix this on Nuendo/Cubase? It has that quality to it (not in a bad way). I dig the the Alice in Chains type vocals. Strictly from a production standpoint:

The guitars definitely sound dope. I like em.

the drums (which is definitely my area of expertise) and the vocals can use a good tweaking still. At least I think. I'll explain.

The drums are very clickly and it's definitely in a clipping kind of way. Not musical analog clipping (which can sound nice), but rather trademark digital clipping (which definitely kills on the ears). It's very distracting to me.

I could suggest to soften them up a bit by lowpassing the unneeded high-end. I'm listening on my good system and it just shows beyond a reason of a doubt. I mean nothing major, the changes can be very subtle.

A good combination of that *judicious* lowpass filter with a bit of compression can soften this issue up pretty nicely. I also personally like a snare with more punch, but that's just me.

The vocals can come out a bit more, but not in a simple turn it up kind of way. I thinking strictly with EQ and a good short stereo verb (very short room with a 1-3sec decayish type deal). Give it a space of it's own. 3D-afy it some more if you know what I mean.

I think with that'll it sit nicely and then you can sell the shit of out it. :D

Thanks a lot Lee. I never thought of LP'ing the drums...what frequencies are you using for each drum? Do you LP the ohs as well?
Thanks again
Rick
