I've been noticing that people are praising some mics that are suprisingly inexpensive, like the Marshal MXL 2001. It's only $100 and I was thinking for that price I might as well just go buy one and try it out. I may find out that it works wonderfully, or if not I have another paintbrush to add to my small collection. Also for that price I could possibly afford to get some studio foam and maybe turn my closet into a little temporary vocal booth, which would probably be a more beneficial investment than a couple hundred bucks on a high end mic that would be used in an ugly sounding bedroom. Maybe I'll get an mxl 2001 for now, fix up a vocal booth and spend $500-$600 on a really nice vocal mic later. I'll be doing mostly male vocals, some voice over type of things and things like that for hard rock. I will be using a Mackie 24.4 vlz mixer with XDR preamps into a sonar equipped PC.
