Opinions on the Marshall MXL 2001?

I've been noticing that people are praising some mics that are suprisingly inexpensive, like the Marshal MXL 2001. It's only $100 and I was thinking for that price I might as well just go buy one and try it out. I may find out that it works wonderfully, or if not I have another paintbrush to add to my small collection. Also for that price I could possibly afford to get some studio foam and maybe turn my closet into a little temporary vocal booth, which would probably be a more beneficial investment than a couple hundred bucks on a high end mic that would be used in an ugly sounding bedroom. Maybe I'll get an mxl 2001 for now, fix up a vocal booth and spend $500-$600 on a really nice vocal mic later. I'll be doing mostly male vocals, some voice over type of things and things like that for hard rock. I will be using a Mackie 24.4 vlz mixer with XDR preamps into a sonar equipped PC.

the 2001 get bad reviews, the only saving grace is the free 603s that comes with it.

ick.........!

Useful as a "coloration mic", but that's about all.........

Believe it or not, I used it on snare a few weeks ago and it rocked. Besides that I haven't used it that much.

I just bought the 2001/603s bundle for only 95.00 at Musicians friend clearence center in KC. Im cosidering selling the 2001 for 100.00. Ive allready had offers for it but nothing over 65.00 yet. Email me and I will accomedate you for less than 100.00 maybe, except for a tryout at the store it has never been used.

I paid $200 for my 2001p a year or so ago and I wouldn't spend $50 on a new one.Total piece of crap. There are far better choices for your hard earned cash.

there wasnt any other way to get a 603s, I wont buy a used condenser thru the mail.

I had one a while back. Mine wasnt horrible(I hear the vary quite a bit though), but it wasnt great either. I sold it on ebay when I bought my v67m. The V67 was great improvement

That's probably the one you were thinking about Uladine. Or maybe you got it confused with the 2003, which is also a very good mic. The 2001 is generally considered to be a piece of crap, in case you haven't guessed already. :)

I have not heard the 2001. I recently bought the V93 (Mars's version of the 2003) and I love it. From what I've heard there is a big difference betweent the 2001 and 2003. BTW, I got the V93 for about $150 with shockmount at mars.

I'm using a 1006 for vocals. The mic had good reviews and is under a $100. It sounds a lot like the AT4033, the AT being a bit warmer to my ears.

Now the 2001 has got to be good on something. Anyone know what that is let us know.

How about putting it on HH? Especially on those songs where you don't end up using the HH track anyway! :p

Uh... a kinda sexy, phallic, mildly disturbing picture there.
