opinion on mix

I've been reading this forum for a couple weeks and thought this would be a good place to post and ask opinions on the mix etc..

All opinions and critiques are welcomed.

here's some audio to listen to

I'm re-tracking the singers vox tom it was his scratch track to record ideas etc.
 
three days and no reply? is it that horrible? :)
 
*Please note I do not hold a lot of experience, so take or leave my opinions as you wish, and at your own risk*

Drums- sound a bit muffled/far away. Maybe boost high freqs.?

Bass- sits well with mix, sounds good to me

Guitar- nice. I really like the sound of the muted rhythm at :44

Piano- doesn't sound too sharp or loud, I think it also sits well where it is

Vocals- very smooth, great voice! Oh, and love the cough at 3:27. The sqeak at 3:40 scared me a bit.
 
Sounds good man! Vocals sound great, I like it. All I would say is bring up the snare and maybe try some compression.

Thanks very much. And yeah, it was scratch vox so i left some of those things in there haha. And yeah I think the snare needs to come up now that I think about it.

And to NegadivOne - Do you mean compressing the snare or overall mix? I tried adding some. That's the most I could compress it without squashing the sound too much. I guess I'm trying to figure out the compressor still though.
 
i'd put some more compression on just the snare itself, to sort of make it "snap" a little better. maybe a bit of hi EQ on it too.
 
I agree with the snare using more snap. I like the tone of the piano althou it seems kinda repetitive throug out the song.


Sounds like someof the stuff i hear on the radio all the time.
 
Yup they got it. I was saying the snare could use some more compression, but it's hard to tell for sure, it doesnt come through very clearly in the mix.
 
I think the piano is to prominent in the mix, i turned the volume right down and all got was the paino, vocals and a little bit of guitar, evrything else was lost.
