miced the classical guitar and banjo with 2 karma K10 mics in xy patern pointing at neck and body/sound hole.

bass is di.
i tried to eq it and scoop out where the bass drum sounded nicest. i think it was around 70ish.

boosted a tiny bit around 3-4k for the kick, and rolled off the low low stuff.
my bass drum was sounding too boomy and bassy.

drums

2 karma k10 overheads in recorderman position.
beta52 for bass drum
with a ldc a few feet away as well blended in for hte kick.
sm57 on the bottom of the snare with decent amount of reverb.

let me know what you think !
any (constructive) criticism welcomed, as i am new to this.

Interesting choice with the classical! Is there a reason ya went for it as opposed to maybe a dreadnought? I like the banjo sound, it's a tough instrument to capture and it sounds like ya did a good job! Bass sounds a little strange to me though, a little scratchy.

thanks paul.

i dont know why i used the classical really, i guess i just like its different sound when strummed.

the bass i used is tuned down to C and i just used one string. it probably would help if was actually tuned in E...
it may be a litte rattly sounding because of this.

Good work on the arrangement using creative instrumentation like that. Arranging-wise it's well balanced. Performance-wise, the rhythm's not real tight, and the banjo's tuning is a little off but an enjoyable listen regardless.

agreed xlr. and thanks.

my goal going into this tune was to get experience recording different sounding insturments and making a nice mix..

so i overlooked getting the performances perfect :D
(and i guess the banjo tunage too heh )

though now that it is done, i may work on the arrangement a bit and see if i cant make a more full song.
