Well, Leftenant, I generally try not to abuse novices unless they prove they are dickheads. This is because I still am one, and tech-heads remind me every day how little I know. I'll admit to leaning over backwards to help newbies of the female persuasion, but it's not some white knight complex. I just think home recording is waaay too testosterone driven. Home recording, and this board can use more of the woman's touch, with all due thanks to such contributors as Riley, Betty Rumble, and Shaky Tee in particular. My former partner Maureen Fleming, is becoming a pretty good home AE. I really want to get her on this board, and a couple of others. She's just the best vocaliast/arranger/lyricist I know.
It was kind of cool, you know- my wife Susan did 2 tracks on my project album, a harp part that's half of a harp/classic guitar duet, and a backing vocal track. I mic'd up the harp, but when it came to the vocal, I just sat her down and showed her how to power up, patch for the task at hand, and how to do a mic shootout. She recorded many tracks on different mics, and we selected the best of them together. It's just so stupid to have a woman who is a perfectly good musician in a house with a project studio and not know how to use it.
The point of this rant, really? Mainly that as I said earlier, this is homerecording.com. If you just do one thing on your drive toward stardom, learn to record your music. Then you will control the music you produce, and if you are smart, retain the rights to it. No one else will make your music for you, but find others who can add their music to yours. Wanna be a star? Get a guitar and hang around with guitar players. Hang out at guitar stores, and expect to kiss a few frogs before you meet the handsome prince. Here's a clue- Beg! Why pay a guitar teacher if you can find a badass guitar player, and *talk* him into teaching you? The world is full of singers and guitarists who can help you. You have to go meet them and convince them that teaching you will be easier than listening to you beg. Then shut up and learn to play. I, for one, will be there for you. Remember, though, as someone claimed "Confucious say"-
"Man who starts out to set the world on fire, often returns for more matches."-Richie
