Wow

I really liked it too. Don't have anything more to add about to composition or mix.

I was wondering what your signal path is. You said you got a condensor...? The Vox sound super clean. How much compression? Sorry, I'm pretty new to all this, but maybe you'd be willing to share the setup to help some of us newbies get a better sound.

groovy

Hi Dan. You really know how to make me laugh. Cheers for the real nice comment. I baught this guitar in Spain, its cheap, big and red. Does the trick though. Thanks for listening, I´ll keep posting.

LI_Slim. Perhaps I would take more time if I had more equipment but more importantly somewhere to record without being disturbed! I think the song is more important than the recording (often), so just grab it while I can. i have got loads to record but dont. Perhaps I never will, because they are too hard for me to record at the moment.

Cheers for the comments on my voice. I just dont think I am a singer compared to real singers. Anyway, the song gets through so thats the best. I tryed my best with the lead, I know but I have never done one so long. It does die a little. Thanks ever so much for checking it and your help SLim.

coloradojay. Man i thought I was a newbie. Absolute pleasure to help as much I can. I use

Boss BR532
Condensor Mic MC1 (looks like a Marshall)
I got a preamp with it too. I dont know the name though.

I always use the compresion effect. This was my first big jump in better quality. Its set to 70 and I put it up a little when I record the vocal. I also have an EQ effect on it. Generaly I change the low and the high so it does not sound too much of either. I do everything in big headphones but the probelm with this is when you put it on something else it does not sound as good as with the phones. Thats it. I bounce everthing on to two tracks and keep adding 2 more each time. Mixing down each time. I cant go back though and tweek things. I wish i could.

I hope that helps but If you want me to tell you more just ask. Thats about it though. Point and shoot.

Erland

always a good song!

always..

the mix has been covered by the others.. just figured I'd drop in and tell you I liked this one more than usual.. keep it up!

Yep, it's beautiful. So friendly and gentle. I should try to make something like that someday...but I don't have the guts I'm afraid. :)

Got nothing to add. Great voice & playing, good recording, nice song, harmonies in the bridge are simple but brilliant, understated but terrific solo. You win the subtlety award, in my opinion! :D

Inspiring!

nice one

Hi Sam. Great to know your listening. You liked this more, me too. Gives me a headache now though. Nice.

Pedullist. hey man, cheers for the inspiring comments. I was going to sing this loud (higher octave) but i thought soft was nice. Simple alright, for sure. Always. You liked the solo! yes, happy chappy now. Cheers man. Later. ps. what can you tell me about Rotterdam?

Erland

Hi Erland, nice song! Those Roland boxes are pretty cool. I can't believe there's no EQ for tweaking. That things got guitar modeling and drums built in and everything, doesn't it? You should be able to go back and rebounce, too, using the virtual tracks, if your mix is off, you go back to your unbounced tracks, and just bounce them again. I had a Roland box, and with bouncing, I would go mad, and do full on productions with over 30 tracks. A major chore, but fun.

You're studying to be a lawyer?!?

Peace,
Macle

......stunning vocals as always E. ..nice tune too.
Excellent! gw/5

really a beautiful presentation fella. Every time I hear one of your tunes I cant tell if your in a cafe in france, an inn in Belgium, sittin on a veranda in Spain, or here in some city park downtown. Sound is so international and unique. Blessings to ya...

Hi Macle. Thanks for having a listen. Good to hear from you again. That box was the best thing I ever baught. It even has a drum machine and has cosm effects which I think is amp modeling. No idea what that it because I record direct with the mic and guitar. The mic was the second best thing to buy! I use the compressor effect and it has an EQ effect too. I would like to tweak after recording but I cant do that. Hey I would love to hear what you done on this too, cool. I use the bouncing all the time, always. I have to go onto to two tracks leaving me with no memory or space left. This is my only problem, going back more than one step is buggered. Cheers Macle.

Guernica. Well thankyou, nice man. Your so nice.

Toki987. That is the coolest comment. Right now, spain. Awsome, just awsome fun. Cheers for the Blessing.

Thanks you guys

I don't think the guitar solo is too out front, I think it should step into the light like that. Its a little disconcerting going back to a soft vocal right after though and that may give the impression that it was too loud. Great guitar work.

whoa...

just a little ole' newbie but I have a grandiose appreciation for vocal skill (my specialty by trade if you will). You do have a very giving ambiant quality to your voice. I especially like the dynamic control you have. As for recording the guitar is quite clean and I think that this song sounds like great soundtrack material. Have you ever considered adding more to the overall production (i.e. some orchestral arrangement and maybe some really nice overdub vocal fill ins and adlibs buried subtly in the background (maybe just my r-n-b and jazz influence talking)? I think the song is great as is (the solo was on point!!).

cool

Hi ashulman. You liked the solo, very nice. I think you are right it goes a little soft after. I added the shaker to make it sound alittle different. Great for checking it out mate.

Well bmorris thankyou for such a nice comment. The song is quite low so easier to sing, perhaps that helps. As or a bigger production, wel erm this was my attemp at bigger vocals and lead guitar etc.lol I wish wish wish i had more things to throw into my songs but I seriously only have the guitar and whats a hand. Mmm I am really into Jazz lately. I will do a big song one day. Thanks again

Erland,

That is beautiful!!

I don't like to compare, but I mean this in the best possible way, Cat Stevens.

Only nit guitar sounds a little pitchy, but your voice doesn't, now that's a switch!!

Great song, playing, and recording!!

You prolly don't even realize how awesome your voice is cause you hear it everyday. Great job all around and you have great control over your voice! You are a great picker as well, so much talent. The only thing I have to say has already been addressed, maybe a little boomy on the main guitar but that is it. Great job and keep them coming!

sounds good man! i really like your voice, like everyone says.

i really liked your song, "raining in boston". that song is sweet.

peace

Very nice as always Erland.
I dig the picking, very fine work indeed!

Overall,another great tune.
If you cut some of the lows, like suggested,it'll be perfect.:D

Pete

Great to hear some more stuff, Erland. And it's a good one!

(BTW - I haven't read the other comments, so apologies if I'm duplicating).

I really like the song (recalls the glory days of "Boy to a Girl" for me :) ) and it certainly holds the attention.

The singing is great, as usual. Nice and gentle.

The harmonies are very good - simple but cool.

The guitar playing is excellent - probably the best I've heard from you. The solo is pretty good, and you avoid the obvious cliches - nice one.

Good hook, too.

Sound - very clear. Guitar sounds great - very natural. I love the way you get each guitar part to sound distinct without knackering the sound itself.

And you get a very smooth vocal sound. Although I think that's more to do with your voice than your gear...

Love 2:20 where everything comes in, and love 2:37 when it all goes away again!

Cool egg - I might introduce it earlier on.

But (you knew it was coming...) you've made a production choice I think you should reconsider. You put the main guitar over on the left. And the main harmony. For me, this makes the whole mix lopsided for large parts of the song.

When the second guitar and additional harmonies come in on the right the whole thing sounds great, but every time you go back to one guitar, it sounds like there's a hole on the right hand side of the mix.

You could try having the guitar panned centre while it's on its own, then pan it left when you bring in the one on the right. Or you could bring the left guitar in a wee touch, and put the main harmony over on the right - so there's always something going on left, middle and right.

On the other hand maybe it was completely intentional - if so, just ignore me ;)

Really loved the song.

Cheers

AB
