ON/OFF switch, and a few other questions?

No switches on my stage

Hi,

I never use a mic with switches on my stage. Here's why.

Singer A finishes his song. Since he's done the show is over and he switches off the mic.

A bit later Singer B starts singing through the switched off microphone. The sound person can't hear anything and ups the gain. Singer B finds the switch and turns it on. Guess what happens next.

Squeeeeeeeeallllllll!!!!!!!!

Switches on mics for live performance. Just say no.

I used the switch on my fake SM58 live with my delay setup - I'd use the switch like I would a pickup selector and make some pretty cool noises.

I can't think of any other good reason to have one.

Just watch out. There have been fake shure mikes on ebay for a while.

Anyway to tell if it's a fake, prior to buying?

Mics with switches are intended for PA systems on podiums and the like. Usaully if the mic has a switch it also has been designed for spoken word, with less low and high frequency response.
