Old Drop Ceiling Panels.

In a small room, I wouldn't waste much wall space with anything that won't also absorb down to as low of a frequency as possible. There's only so much wall space in a small room, and it takes a lot of bass trapping to get that low end under control. I'd try to use as much broadband absorption as possible. If it's too dead in the high end after that, it's easy to add range limiting kinds of things to your treatments.

That's what I think, too. From what the pro audio guys have said (Brandt, Willet, etc) diffusors in small rooms are not effective.

I used those panels with some quilting batting for a little contour and covered the works in burlap. Some scrap wood for mounting and I-bolts with picture wire for hanging in the corners. Not sure how accurate the results were but it tamed the room. I got all the first reflections then went for obvious echo points. It' sounds much better. It's a small (12'x14') but well insulated room in my freestanding garage about a quarter mile from any neighbors so leaking out is not a problem. I made some window plugs from duct material to keep the bird songs out. Maybe not the high dollar remedy but it works for me!
