guess its about 12 years old or so....how good of a mike is it compared to whats out there now in the same price range....cant quite to seem to get it as clear as i think it should sound when recording....

C1000's particularly the older ones have a few uses, but in general are said to be harsh and obnoxious.

I have 2 of the old gray ones and have used them for Voice in a pinch but mostly use them as snare drum mics.

As I have collected more and more mics over the years ( I think I am up to about 30) they get less and less use. There is someone (Marik?) out there doing mods on them for about $150 each that supposedly does wonders, but for that much money you may want to look for a more all purpose mic unless you are going to be primarily recording acoustic instruments.

my thoughts anyway.

Harsh & obnoxious...

Yes, that's the way I remember that thing I sold for $70.

Good riddance.

Hehe...they get a bad rap, and I'm not diputing anyone's experience with them. I use a pair for overheads. I have no problem with them at all. I like my drum sound. :)

Rami
Are the ones you have the dark gray colored ones or the newer silver colored ones?

I've always thought your drum sound was good so you obviously have a working situation.
I have never really thought of mine as harsh either, but to each his own.
They really bring out some goodness out of a snare.

Yeah, they get a bad rap around here, but I've found them serviceable as overheads (disclaimer, I don't record live drums that often), and I've had great luck with a pair of them on acoustic guitar. I've gotten a fair number of compliments on my acoustic sound (and have always been pretty happy with it right out of the box myself), so something must be working...

ok, so..........what mikes out there now, under 2 bills will absolutly sound better than the mike in question for vocals ??

There are several.
Not knowing where you are in the world makes it kind of hard to suggest used, but in the used market in the US I have bought several different Mics I thought pretty exceptional for under $200.

As far as Condensor mics go i think one of the most versatile mics you can get is a used Cad E-100. They go all the time used for under $150 . They are an excellent all around mic you will never get rid of. It works well on voice, but also makes a heck of a acoustic guitar mic.
A pair would make excellent drum overheads as well.
I have 3 or 4 of them myself.

For about $100 used an MXL V67 makes a good vocal mike although i have not used it much for anything else.

I just added a MXL 990 S (2 LCDs in a XY pattern in one capsule, cable with 2 XLR plugs) to my collection of mics. I've been quite impressed with it for a vocal mic both for solo and group/harmony parts. It also works great for overheads rather than two seperate mics in a XY pattern. These mics retail for around $150 (US) and are well worth it IMO.

Possibly a dumb response, but have you tried the AKG? What did you think of it on your voice? What worked for you or didn't?

Not only will this help people give you better advice, who knows, the AKG may just do good things to your voice and it might actually be a good match for you.

sing thru it all of the time....i have a pretty deep voice and it just seems muddy sometimes unless i cut the bass back on it.... tried eq'ing it but i just cant seem to get happy with it.......
