I have been looking for two Oktava MK012's for a while... I remember just a little bit ago Guitar Center was selling them for 100 for 2 and now they are on Ebay going for a 100 bucks a pop! this is rediculous... is there anywhere online where I can get a deal like they use to have? What are some other options for me kinda like them.... anyone know anything about *pardon my language* Behringer B-5's?

Looks like GC isn't going to carry them any more. The 2 for $100 deal is gone like Elvis. $100 each was the original deal, anyway.

Hopefully some US distributor will pick them up. If not, I’d say get them while you can for $100 a piece, because after the left-overs are gone, the Sound Room is all that’s left and they’re selling them for $193 a pop.

damn thats crazy. I'd be better off getting a pair of samson c02 for 120.00 although i dont know much about those... but i geuss they'd be alright for acoustic guitar and drum overheads.

You know, I just saw those. The thing I like about the CO2s is that the grilles are just like the ones on the MXL 603S, which are supposed to be better than the ones used on the Nadys, Behringers and other similar mics. Probably the same capsule/diaphragm in all of them. Certainly worth a try.

cool, good deal... I'm gonna run to GC tomorrow and when I get home i'll try em' out on my acoustics and review how they turn out. thanks for your help

Cool! You might want to give them a quick try at the store before you buy them. Maybe compare them to the 603S if they have one.

If you can find a Guitar Center with them, just try to deal a little bit. I got mine for $150 for the pair, and thats just because I'm horrible at bartering, and was in a hurry.

Are you sure about that? I read that they would be getting them again later, but there would be none in until at least August. The problem was somehow or other McKay was having some kind of problem with the importation.

True? Just rumor? I dunno...

the sound room is a whole different deal. if you look at their matched pairs then you can see that they overcome the bad quality control and you are guaranteed a great sounding matched pair. when buying the ones at guitar center it wasn't guaranteed that they were matched or sounded decent. its alomost like gambling with $100 and taking the chance you might get some good ones.

Co2 Warning!!!!!

I had the CO2's for 1 day before returning them.

Extremely noisy IMO!!!.

Unusable in recording acoustic/clasical guitar.

Didnt sound bad but much to much self noise.

Its possible I got a bad set but they are rated at like 24db or something.
Not too good ....... although they are only $120..... so I guess you cant expect too much.

I just went to my local GC and they carried the MK012's, but these were the ones with the -10db pads and 3 other capsules. They are selling them for $200.

The later ones were way more consistent and used better components then the earlier ones. The QC of the last few runs didn’t seem any worse than say MXL or other similar mfgs. Anyway, the point’s mote now.

As far as matched pairs go, the Sound Room has always been the only place to get those. Oktava claimed to have “matched” pairs (matched at Oktava), but I found out from my own experience that they couldn’t deliver as advertised (…like different as night and day – literally!)

Thanks for the info. I figured if anything was wrong with them, this would be it.

That’s the story I’m getting now. We can always hope it’s not true.

I saw at least one MK-012 in the case at the GC in Rancho Cucamunga yesterday. They may have more, I didn't ask. I bought a pair of them at the two for $100 and they are very well matched. Maybe I'm just lucky. I've herad that you can still get the MXL603s from Shreve audio for around $50 each. It wouldn't hurt to give them a call.

Blessings, Terry
