I was recording a big band a while ago and the conductor was playing a guitar solo which I have recorded with a SP B1 on two inch tape. I found the mp3 on his website.

I dedicate this post to DJL :D:D:D

Nice. I have two of these. A great mic for $79. I know what some are going to say. For a few bucks more there are a lot of mics that would sound better. But it's nice for the price.

Not a bad sounding mic for the price. That is some exceptional
playing.Got the link to their page?

Nice sound. It's not very indicative of its quality though, sounds like the kinda thing that anything would sound good picking up. Maybe I can use this to post some of my acoustic guitar and vocals? :D

Yep, the man is a very good and skilled player. Actually it was an overdub and he nailed it in one take.

He is the conductor of a very good big band and when we had a two days session, it turned out the bassplayer was ill.

So the conductor grabbed a P bass, pugged it into a bass combo where I'd put a ribbon mic to and he played most of the parts while he had not rehearsed at all. An amazing guy!

He played the bass together with the whole band, not as an overdub.

It's a privilege to be able to work with great musicians.

I believe it was an Ibanez that looks something like the Epiphone Sheraton.

I suppose the post reconfirms either 1) that the SP B1 is a very good mic for this guitar, and/or 2) that a great performance will come through regardless of the gear and/or 3) good engineering will always overcome the limitations of the gear , or 4) all the above. :)

What kind of amp was he playing out of and where was the mic placed? I like the sound and have an b1 lying around...

It was a Fender de Luxe )tube) amp and the B1 was placed close to the speaker halfway between the cone's edge and the center.

The guitar is an Ibanez Artist AS200.

Peace, Han
