Ok...one more overhead dilemma

So...I posted a week ago about using different mics for overhead, and so I've been trying different things. Using my ADK pair, but then using my Shure 87a condenser by itself, with one ADK, etc. The ADK's sound ok, but their output doesn't seem to be too hot, and when i turn up the gain to compensate, I get a lot of hiss. The Shure has more output, so the cymbals and toms seem "closer" and louder, but it also sounds more harsh than the on the cymbals. Suggestions?

Move the ADKs closer? Ideal mic placement will likely vary significantly from mic to mic because no two models of mic are likely to have the same output levels or off-axis response.

what are you trying to acheive soundwise?

hiss wise...what mic pre are you using?

do either mics have a pad? if so, make sure the one on the ADK is off, and the one on shure is off - that should help to even out the levels

I'm just using the pres off the mackie board. I do have a UA610 that I haven't really messed around with, but it only has one pre ( i believe)
