Hello everyone, and as John says, cheers. I like that. Cheers! I would like to post the second installment of my future"home studio?" saga. I just returned from 2 trips. One from the state of Oregon, and one from LA. I went to Oregon to find my final home/commercial building(s), for our printing/bindery business/my wifes "shabbychic" ebay business, my specialty fabrication shop, and of course, my studio. Made a trip from Sacramento, Ca to Los Angeles, and back in 24 hrs to pickup my second MSR-16. Tomorrow I leave again, for Roseburg Oregon to put in an offer on what I described above. The property is completely commercial. With an old home,(it has 3 apartments in it now) a seperate 3 car garage(Roof burned), 2 city lots, with the house on one, and a cool, old 1200sf. commercial storefront/building on the other, with a 1200sf. apartment over it, on a total commercial block, in old downtown Roseburg. Its not what I originally had in mind, but for what we need, this has more bang for the buck. If I succeed in this offer, my studio plans will change. As there are LOTSA old concrete BIG buildings on the same block. Cheap. In the meantime I am going to do what everyone does here. ASK QUESTIONS!!!. And lots of them. Heres the first one. Can someone enlighten me about the vBcode controls and the attatch file field/browse button, and how to use them correctly? And then I will get my drawings into a format to display here, although my BID submittal documents will be in CAD. Or if you wish, maybe I will just post the .dwg file as another member did. That way you can have the file to convert, or use in autocad. That is if you don't mind old farts to join in this forum, cause I admit it, I am one. And I show it. But I never heard of any law saying "OLD FARTS CANNOT BE INVOLVED AND SHARE IN THE KNOWLEDGE AND INTEREST OF BUILDING A HOME STUDIO"! But by the sound of some of the remarks on other forums, you would think that experience, knowledge and other attributes of age, are something to belittle, poke fun at, and generaly used as the brunt of a joke. I hope that isn't the case here. So till next installment.
G'day!

the vBCode thing allows complex nesting of HTML tags, and quite honest, I don't really use it. You can also add PHP code.

I for one would love to see your documents, you can do it two ways. rename the dwg file to .gif, and attach it to the message and just state we have to change it to dwg, or put them somewhere else (members.aol.com, geocities.com, etc) and in this message system post the link. I'm sure anyone here can cut and paste :)

And congrats on finding some cool space - sounds like you have a lot going on too!!!

I don't think you can post dwg files.
In fact, I know you can't, because I just tried it.

The vbcodes have an explaination at the bottom of this page. Just click on the "vB code" and it will give you explainations on how to use them.

Any specific questions in that regard, and I'll try to help.

If you have a dwg file, I can convert it for you into jpg.
Just e-mail it to me, and I'll send it back!

Hows yours coming?

Hi frederic, thanks for the info. I've only posted a couple of pictures, but no cad files yet. And I used the vBcontrols to do that. I still am having a problem with this. I must be a dunce. BTW, did you ever have a chance to open the files I sent you? I don't know yet what I am going to end up with, so I really can't start conceptulizing my space. How about you, are you making progress with the new building. Hell, even deciding what your going to do is challenging. Let alone the plan. Anyway, keep us posted on your decisions. Do you mind if I post the files I sent you here? Its just ideas. Nothing calculated(as if I have time right now!) Purely esthetic. I thought someone might be interested in concept only drawings. Maybe not. But I will post mine, as soon as I know what is really happening with a building. Right now, I'm just waiting to see if my offer is accepted. Then I can get on with things. You know how that goes.

Yes, I opened both of them, and sent you a huge-ass reply thanking you, asking questions, and expressing my grattitude.

I guess the internet still sucks.

making progress with the new building. Hell, even deciding what your going to do is challenging. Let alone the plan.

Cleanup starts next wednesday. The junk company is going to charge $5k to remove the three stories of junk and recycle it on my side of the facility. The cut the price down a bit when they found out they can take/keep the steel shelving system thats in there, so everyone's happy. The estimate 4 business days, 10 hour days, eight men, two of which have forklifts. They dropped off a huge dumper trailer yesterday at some point.

My buddy chose a different clean up crew for his side, which is costing him twice as much. I offered these guys as a referral but he's going with some other crew. Hey, whatever, not my problem :)

The office furniture is intact on my side, and one day next week I have a cleaning crew going in there to seriously clean the windows, dust, vaccuum, wash the bathroom down, etc.

Anyway, keep us posted on your decisions. Do you mind if I post the files I sent you here? Its just ideas. Nothing

Post away, I have no issue with it at all. I haven't posted them yet because you hadn't replied to my earlier email which asked your permission to do so :) Since you didn't get it, I now know why you didn't respond. I had assumed you were busy :)

That was the worst part for me, waiting 2 weeks for an answer as to if I won the bid. Being that the bid closed 9:00am the day the bid opened, I guess I shouldn't have worried about it :) But the two weeks prior I was on pins and needles.

Hey, it was a "deal of a lifetime". Never pass those up if you can.

As far as what i'm doing, well, still not at that point. My first and foremost goal is to get my buddy into the other side ASAP so he starts paying rent, so I can recover from the initial purchase. He should be in by end of August, with a pre-payment of Sept. Once thats resolved, I can start on the mandatory improvements the town is requiring me to make in order to rent the facility to my buddy, so those will start once my side is cleaned out. its coming together so far. Except my wife asked if she could have the only office to start a business. I offered her the 2-car garage loft where my home studio is right now instead.

The name of my studio should be "No Wives Recording" :)

Since the size and quantity of gear will dictate the sizes of the control room, I'm in the process of (slowly) evaluating the level and type of gear I want, starting with the console. New and used, there are way to many choices. I could easily choke on all the options!
