which would you recommend:

m audio sp-5b
event tr5
samson resolv 65

they are all the exact same price...

sorry to jump in without an answer but i am very interested in hearing thoses TR5-N's from Event....

I can tell you what I wouldn't buy:D

The samsons..

If I where going to buy blind (since I've not heard these) I would buy the Event on reputation, but I would try to get a listen to them all first.. I know some people hear have the M audio's maybe they will chime in???

You can get the event's from MF and send them back if you don't like them:)

I think you can still find the Tannoy Proto-j Speakers with a Haffler amp for around $350.00. I have the proto-j's and really like them. Any thing I mix on them transfers very well to any stereo I have tried... If you have a power amp you can get the speakers for $200.00 at MF..

Early this year,Prior to purchasing my Yorkvilles monitors, I did some extensive "STUDIO MONITOR" research for over 6 months. I have heard many of the professional Monitors that are popular.

Having worked in professional Studios as a keyboardist, in my opinion the YSM1p's are one of the best I have ever heard for. Do not ! I repeat Do not! let the size of the Woofer fool you, these monitors have Range and Punch!

They will be an asset to any musican's Home Studio. There are other good quality sounding monitors available for purchase, however the YSM1p's are certainly in a monitor Class all by themselves.

The YSM1p's can't be puchased just anywhere. Yorkville is very selective about the retail stores that represent their awesome product. Yorkville doesn't spend a large amount of their budget on Marketing, they spend a large amount in Research & Development.*smile* The Techology of their speaker design is simple , Accurate, responsive, clear and powerful! You will love the sound of the Yorkvilles !

I've got the M Audios and they work well. I haven't heard the others.
For the money I would guess they are all pretty close and if your budget is $300.00 you probably wouldn't be dissapointed with either of them. I have heard people who have the Yorkvilles sing their praises but the choice is ultimatly yours.
If I had more $$$ I would have bought Mackies so we live with what we can afford.

Ya I thought of the yorkvilles but I think they go for around $450.00..??

I have heard nothing but good about them!!

I got a set of the SP5B's....they dont shake the walls, but they do a fine job and sound good.

You should have a local hi-fi stereo dealer that carries Paradigm. Go audition a pair of Paradigm mini-monitors. The stereo image alone should sell you. They are pretty flat, and totally non-fatiguing, and at $340 a pair, a total steal.
www.paradigm.com has a zip code locator on it.

TRY THE KRK ROKITS

THEY REALLY ARE PRETTY GOOD, DOWN TO ABOUT 60 HZ

from research, price, availablility, and all that, for me yorkville is the only choice. To me its the yorkville ysmip, event 20/20 BAS, or the mackie hr824's. I think its 824... Those other ones are higher in price though.

Mind you this is blind, i would ab the yorkvilles with the events and see, but in my budget, even before trying out the yorkvilles they're pretty much the only option for me.

Now to that new long and mcquade store near me to test them out...

yeah, go test them out.
i did that and chose the YSM1p's... been pleased ever since.

the event's sounded worse to me. well, that is, they actually sounded better, but in a bad way... like, more low-end hype. the yorkville's sound TOTALLY flat in comparison. their bass is super-tight and punchy, the mids are smooth, and highs are cyrstal-clear and go way up there.

the only problem with the YSM1p's is that I hear a bit of a frequency bump exactly on a low C# note, in any room. it's not a big deal though, you just have to know it's there.

I would recommend the Event product, but am unfamiliar with the TR5. At any rate, just be sure not to go with any of the Event PS series. I got a pair of those before my 20/20s and I thought they were terrible.

So you're telling me that you arent going to even TRY the Paradigms out before you buy? The thing is, they are available in every city, pretty much. Your loss if you dont.

do you know how much those paradigm monitor 5, studio 20/40s cost? the dealer part of their website doesnt even load for me.

listen to everything you can and let your ears decide. thats pretty much what most people on this board with more expertise will tell you.

But that doesnt' mean you have to make a stupid purchase, its good to ask questions on this board and figure out what you should be looking for, and figure out which are the best to audition. Avoid the lemons sorta thing. Like it was mentioned earlier, its not really the best sounding, but the flattest and most truthful sounding.

I guess its hard to know exactly what that is though.
