I am totally new, though I am learning, While I am interested in home recording, first and foremost I want to be able to have husband play acoustic/electric guitar AND sing and have that come out live through my AVR into my refference speakers. Now having him play the guitar is no problem but AVRs are not designed send multiple signals to the speakers and of course they don't have phatom power either.

I have read enough to know that I will probably go the audio interface route with computer for recording, what I want to know is can I use the audio interface in a way that lets me mix and route the signal to AVR for live playing/singing?

I don't currently have any amps or preamps other than those in the AVR. the audio interface would have pre amps and phantom power available for the Mic
and a connection for the guitar. I also have yet to buy the Condenser Mic So can anyone tell me if I get the audio interface can I do what I said above? for the actual playing hearing live? Or is an audio interface not capable of mixing and sending to AVR in real time?

Please be gentle I am an almost 60 year old grandmother, just getting into this area of things. LOL
THough I do have over 3k posts on the AVS forum. Home theater has been my thing up to now.:)

As for what I currently have for setting up home recording portion:

HP computer with CD/DVD burners with AMD Phenom 9650 Quad core 64 bit 2.30 ghz 8 gig or Ram

Roland Fantom X8

Kef 102 refference speakers Sennheiser and AKG headphones

I am still trying to select an appropriate autdio interface.

Also have 3 AVRs Harman Kardon, Pioneer Elite VSX 74 VXti
and an OLD Yamaha RXV 595

The interface should have a monitor out signal which can be routed to your AVR

The M-Audio Fast track has 2 inputs that will except instrument 1/4" jacks and XLR for mic's, it has RCA outs, plus 1/4" TRS outs, and in worst cast you could use the head phone jack, Sorry don't now to much about the AVR connections
