Obviously Not Ideal

I'm still new to recording, and as I'm a student starting from scratch, I am yet to get all the equiptment that I want. I am going to get a set of decent monitors for Christmas, but until then (and don't yell at me for this) but I am going to have to use Ipod headphones!!

I realise this is sooo far from ideal, but how can I monitor my mixes from the SPDIF input on my laptop?

Also, I have a set of decent commercial speakers which I would like to use, but I don't know how to connect them.
Forgive my ignorance when it comes to all this wiring and connections etc, but it has those 2 (red and White) inputs in the back; should I be able to connect this to my EMU 0404 interface for monitoring?

Thanks for your help, sorry about the rambling (I blame it on too much coffee!)

You won't be able to monitor through a spdif input... it is an input, not an output, so it won't send sound out. If you have an 0404 installed, why would you want to? Just use the outputs of the interface, or better yet, until you get your monitors, just use the headphone output of your computer.

As far as the commercial speakers, what do you mean "commercial?" What do they have for connections on them?

Pete

The red and white are RCAs, so you should just need a 1/8" to RCA cable to run from the headphone jack of the computer to the speakers, assuming they are powered somehow.
