i've been using a pair of NT1's and i want to move to the next level.

i'm looking at either a pair of AT4033's or NT2's. i'll be using these for drum overheads, vocals, and general purpose stuff.

any advice would surely help.

Rode, Audio Technica

Hi,

I went through the same as you although I only wanted the one microphone. I tested the offerings from both companies and AKG and decided on the Rode NT2. Apart from the excellent price of all the microphones I noticed how at ease I was in making the decision due to the fact that they were all excellent. The AT was the one I could have left behind as it didn't quite excite me as much as the Rode or the AKG. The Rode had to be the one after shouting and blabbing into it in the middle of a music shop and feeling comfortable about it's approach for vocals. The AKG seemed a tad false to me or maybe it just didn't have the confidence that the Rode had.

I Agree.

I tested an AKG C-3000, AT-4033, and a Rode NT-2 on vocals and acoustic guitars, and I preferred the overall balance of the NT-2.

I have not tried the AT, or NT-2 as overheads though. The AKGs worked well. If I was buying Rodes for overheads, I'd probably go with a pair of NT-3's.

Overheads

I still swear by AKG 451's for overheads although there are many other contenders. I suppose when a mic has been around for maybe 15years and it's still a great contender, the manufacturer must have done something right!

Cheers

Steve.
