With the signal chain rode nt1000 into Midiman Audio Buddy preamp then delta44 converters into sonar, i am getting unusual dynamic response - the mic performs as expected at low levels, but once the souce passes a medium volume, the level received by sonar remains identical!!!

Its impossible to clip the sofwares inputs - all peaks get reduced to a flat edged wave form that looks clipped but does not sound it.

If its deliberate then cool, but the way the output level stops reflecting the input as the volume gets louder makes me wonder if its not a lack of voltage or something...

Neither the mic or the preamp has any input pad - could this be the reason?

Theres never any apparent distortion, except for on screamy vocals, and that might be my singing:)

To sum up, if i record a cymbal swell, the levels go to 9 quickly, but then never get to 10 regardless of how hard i play...

any ideas anyone???

thx in adv

sounds like your soundcard or software has some sort of built in limiter/compressor operating....but i'll let someone else give a more specific answer as i've only used the nt1000 and audio buddy and had no such problems (if i wanted clipping i could easily get it but usually dont)..
