a spoonfull weighs a ton
This is one from way back. I'm just working on the mix here. This is all done on 4-track casette. That's me on vocals and guitars and the Col.'s on upright bass. I didn't have the NT-1 back then, I think I used "the diaper mic" (or that's what we called it-) A CAD22 (cheap) in a... (hmmm... was it a sock?) placed on the bass (stuck in the bridge somewhere) and also a direct line out from his fishman pre amp. There was a mic inbetween us, ATM41HE, and then my line in from me acoustic preamp. I did the electric overdub down in the bombshelter with a 57. And for the vocals the ATM41HE, 57 for the backing vox.... but I can't remember where....

anyway too much info...

Like the guitar sounds a lot. Reminds me of some of the Zep sounds. Something about analog stuff I hear on here, really good, even with the hiss. Where is the rest of it? Didn't hear any vocals, it just sorta ended. Ended in a way that made it sound like it faded. Maybe the I-drive upload was messed.

Nice stuff though, would like to here it completed.

Glad to hear some of your stuff, man. I really dig the guitar work. "Hypnotic" as it would be. :) Good quality - don't know if I would have recognized it as a cassette 4-track if you hadn't mentioned it. Liked the lyrical work too.

I really liked the feel of the instrumental intro, but wish you had something to tame those sudden peaks a little. The meandering little melody and the frettless stuff worked well together. I haven't heard the 2nd part enough to really comment yet.

Agree with pglewis....the peaks can be jarring on an otherwise nice mix...guitar and the Col's bass very tasty stuff...the backing vocals kinda lost somewhere, maybe it's the mp3 thing?...good sound on the lead vocal......gibs

Thanks guys!

Emeric- were you able to get the second part?

Jim- glad you liked the lyrics and the song- hearing your stuff makes me wanna do more acoustic stuff like this!

pglewis- I see what you mean- I could have compressed a little more, but I wanted to leave the dynamics intact- to emphasise them even. Actually I'm glad if it made you a litte on edge, cringing when I hit and then slide that chord around. or maybe that's just me.... :D

There are a few things that I want to work out in the "in the sink" mix. Once I have that I'll post the two together. (I know how you guys just love to download my 7 minute songs! I do usually encode at a measly 96k however) I scrapped the direct bass sounds after the intro to free up some tracks for the vocals- so I wish there was a little more of the upright to work with. :( At the time I just didn't want to have a lot of bounces. till the next time...

Yes, I was able to get the second part, havent had a chance to listen to it yet, but will later on :)

Are you talking about the one at about 1:06? I took a closer listen, and thats really the only one that really jumped out. At first, I thought you peaked... but now I think it might just be the fuzzy distortion on the electric popping out of the mix on that louder chord. It sort of climaxes there before tailing off, and I really wouldn't want that feel to get lost... but it kinda has that "torn speaker" kinda sound there.

I finally got around to listening to the 2nd half a few times... I guess it all adds up to a 6 1/2 minute opus. Your stuff has a distinctive sound, for sure. I liked the guitar stuff, and how the tempo wanders around. I'll be looking for the next mix.

6 and 1/2 minutes is rather short for me actually. I'm lucky if I can get somthing under 7. I do have some shorter 5 min songs though. I try to keep em short honest!
