I have found my dream studio! How much did it cost you to build this? I notice that you didn't have any parrell walls. good thinking ;) Colors are nice too.

Zeke - right now I'm sitting at $20K and it's 99% complete. I figure about $700 will finish it up with glass, baseboards, etc. The only thing I didn't do myself (with the help of friends) was pour the slab, erect the "butler" type steel building and run/charge AC freon lines. The friends who helped are from another band I record. Their dayjobs are house framing. The trade was they have perpetual free recording time. Good for them, good for me. Barter system at work.

Unfortunately I do have some parallel walls. This will be compensated with wall mounted diffusers/absorbers on opposing walls and bass traps in the corners. None of the rooms will be dead, just as balanced as I can get them.

I'm located near Albany in Southwest Ga.

20k! (guess i better start saving my allowance :D ) But really, it's a cool studio man. I give it 5 stars :)

I've been to albany many times. nice place.

20K well spent! Don't forget to have fun with it when you're done! :D

And for all y'all north of the Big Chicken, that's pronounced "Al- BEN- y".
What's on the floor in the live room? Looks like painted concrete.

Yeah it's painted concrete (after the sealer of course) in the live room. I just put sealer on the control room floor Friday night. Got the rest of the doors hung today. Man those solid wood doors are heavy. I put in some extra long wood screws so the hinges don't pull loose a year from now. The doors weren't pre-hung so we had to cut in the hinges. Got started on the baseboards in the live room. This is one time I wish all my walls met at 90 degree angles. Had to buy one of those adjustable protractor looking things at home depot. I had an inside angle at one place that was 140 degrees and an outside angle at another that was 135 degrees. Thank goodness for adjustable table saws. Looks like the baseboard in live room will be a dark navy blue. I'm planning on putting some fake oriental rugs on the floor. Kind of a Dave Mathews look.

Hey DD!

Great Job man. I figured since I was the one who asked to see pics of your progress I ought to add my kudos. That really looks nice. You need to have a soldering party man. You supply the irons, the solder, and the whiskey and have 'em go to town. YEEEEEEE - HAAAAAAAHHH!!!

Man, I've got relatives just out the road from you over in Sylvester. It's nice down there. Do you know any Gammages (sp?) down that way? My wife's uncle lives down there with his wife. We don't get down there often but we've been once and we are planning to do it again. When we do I'll be letting you know cause I'll want to visit if I can.

PS: Love the control room window!! Easy to see through and provides great isolation too :D :D

Seriously though, at the stage it's at now, how are the acoustics? What about leakage to the outside? (Although, I remember you saying that wasn't a big concern for you since you're out in the middle of nowhere and south Georgia is well, the middle of nowhere; heh, heh!!)

Mike - Just went through Sylvester last Saturday. Had to help our drummer over in Tifton move a couple of miles from where he was. That last name doesn't sound familiar. I know a few people over there.

The acoustics actually aren't that bad. I've got some bass build up I have to take care of (traps in the corners). I do have leakage to outside but it's not a problem. I've got really good isolation from outside noise though if that makes any sense.
