So....from what I know - it's extremely illegal to "broadcast" without paying for the airways..or something like this at least! haha.

But I've met people - mostly in places like appalacia, where the signal probably dies as soon as it hits a hill - who've actually ran a little radio station that could be heard around her smalllllll town! haha.

I think that RULES..

anyway, what broadcasts a signal? What kind of equipment I mean? Anyone know anything about ANY of this stuff? Just kinda interests me.

I guess I can validate this going in this forum with this:

can I broadcast from my computer/ recording workstation? that would own! haha.

you would need a transmitter and i believe something to modulate the signal out of your computer

I definately know that you will need a transmitter.

I'll need to call one of my buddies that quote/unquote allegedly does pirate radio.

Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to use the web? You don't risk being fined by the FCC and you can reach millions more people.

i considered that once, but the amount of upstream bandwidth you need to be able support even 15 listeners @ 128kbps is...well, more than I have at least. do the math.

"Pirate Radio" is pretty big in a lot of areas - You're allowed a certain number of watts of transmitting power before you're a "radio station."

Wish I could tell you more, but it should be pretty easy to find...

P.S. You just need a low-power transmitter and something to transmit.
