i listen a lot to baroque music, bach being one of my favorits. when i open the cd of for instance his violin concerto in Amin (recorded by the bach collegium japan - engineerd and produced by dirk lüdemann) the levels are down to -2 and the dynamics of the recordings are awesome - too bad it's not 24 bit.

so forget about the 'LOUDNESS WAR' and just treat your music right by making it sound GOOD

in stead off LOUD

Word. Keep the L1 and L2 away (even though it's pretty difficult to not use them ;))

Yes! Yes! Oh, GOD YES!!!

Now, on the other hand, I do a lot of classical - I actually add a wee bit of "secret ingredients" to give it a little more "ooomph" than the average classical recording, but the key is to keep those dynamics (my "secret ingredients" tend to act only on the quieter passages, and are loosely based on the reaction of the human ear to changes in volume).

But hell yeah... If we could only get everyone else (record execs, artsits, etc.) to understand what the hell they're doing to otherwise wonderful recordings...
