i downloaded pro tools free and fruityloops. i made a beat in fruityloops and i wanted to record it in pro tools. when i played the beat in fruityloops and then flipped back to pro tools, there was no level peaking. i hit "rec" in the mixer window and there is no level!! what are some things i can do to get a signal?

It doesn't quite work like that. PT only records what's going into your sound card or Rewired into PT from other applications. I don't know if FL or PT Free are Rewire capable.

Export the file to a wav from FruityLoops, then Import it into Pro Tools. Both options on the File menus of the respective apps.

that's weird, because i used to get a signal when i first tried to do this. it had a lot of latency, but i did get one. now, i don't get one at all. i'll try your guys' advice and see what happens. thanks for the help...

Double check the windows mixer. Make sure under the Recording Properties that .wav is checked. You might try the 'What you Hear' option.

when i go into control panels, i don't see anything called "mixer" or "windows mixer". i double clicked "multimedia" and "sounds" and some others but i couldn't find any option like "what you hear" anywhere. Am i looking in the wrong place?!?

confused guy...

The "What you hear" option is for SoundBlaster Live! and Audigy cards only. As far as I know.
