Hello. I'm pretty new to this whole thing. I'm trying to record guitar sound.
Recently I bought mbox3 to get into his whole recording thing.
I've plugged my guitar right into its input.
So right now it's my electric guitar -> mbox
While it gets the job done which is making sound and record
It just sound really bad. Someone told me that I should use DI Box.
Is this necessary ? I'm using Protools and the sans amp or eleven simulator it came with. Which i think is demo version.

Is DI the next step to of making it sound better ? Or should I invest in buying a amp simulator package like guitar rig or amplitube?

Thanks in advance.

BTW i've done my research and know what DI does. :) so you don't waste ur time explaining. Question is specific to recording guitar/bass. And getting a good tone by using DI box

AMP SIM or get a microphone set up and mic your amp!

Define bad.

Pops and clicks? Harsh? You may be recording too hot.

Or just the tone is horrible? Then mic an amp or get a simulator.

If the M-Box's 1/4" input is a line input rather than an instrument input then there may be an impedance mismatch. Getting a DI might fix that if the DI's impedance is high enough, which may not be the case with a passive DI. An active DI would almost certainly present a high enough load for whatever pickup you have.

But that still leaves the issue of tone not fully addressed. For that you may need an amp and mic or an amp simulator.

Guitars sound like bitter ass unless they're using an amp simulator or you're micing the amp! A DI box won't really help things at all.

Thanks dude. Just what I was trying to describe. Bitter ass. Thanks all!

Haha thanks :D

It's not original though...I first saw it here when someone used it to describe the sound of their drums. :laughings:
