***** noisy graphics PLEASE HELP *****

I have just upgraded my soundcard from a Guillemot ISIS to a terratec EWS88MT. However when using Logis, which worked OK with the old card, I experience bad noise problems when recording. This is affected by the type of window ie. the arrange window with the scroll bar is much noisier than the track mixer. Sometimes this problem is not so bad but most or the time its a real problem. I am using an onboard graphics card which is probably shit but experienced the same problem when using a PCI one also. My computer has 1.7 processor with decent hard drives. Could anybody please help, I'm pretty sure its to do with graphics but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You may have to upgrade to one of the newer AGP video cards.

I have a GraphicsMaster GeForce2 MX400 with 64MB of video RAM. Your on-board video card and the PCI card may both be lacking in video RAM which could possibly be the source of the noise problem you are experiencing.

I might be on the wrong track, however, I'm assuming that you are talking about recording a guitar or something similar in from of the screen.... Is the 'noise' as bad when you move away from the screen?

BluesMeister is right.
PCI video cards may pollute the PCI bus - hence noises, clicks and pops.
Get yourself an AGP videocard, and make sure nothing is installed in PCI slot No. 1, which is right next to AGP slot . These two slots may share the same IRQ, which is undesirable.
 
I know what Mark means, as I'm experiencing the same problem with my delta alongside a GF2MX in the box.
I've seen this problem reffered to on several other forums, but no clues yet.

I get noises when I'm scolling or transating a plugin window, and different flavors of buzzes depending on what window's on top.

It might be an intererence caused by the VGA output stage of the graphics which emite EM radiations depending on the content of a frame... or whatever

All you can try for the moment is a solid metal shielding of your audio card using copper foil wrapping, or even solid metal blocks, and make sure your computer 's plugged on a 3 pins socket with ground wire.

I'll keep you informed if I get some tips on solving this problem.
 
Noises when scrolling and the like are one sign of an underpowered or just plain bad power supply.

Are you sure the noise is actually recorded?

Hey Slack, I hope you're wrong, because I just upgraded my noname power sup to a terrific 353W Enermax box, which cost me a littlte over a 100 bucks.
353 should be enough considering I've only got two 7200rpm hard drives, a GF2MX, a DELTA and a sblive in the box, running a 1.3GHz AMD chip, plus 512Megs of spektek ram (no usb shit or elsever).

Then what do you reckon? should I step up to a 450W power box?
 
Turn down your hardware acceleration. Depending on the OS, it's under the Display option's Advanced setting. Also, drop you color depth to 16bit. This can help.
 
It depends on where the noise is coming from.

Power supply whine can be very hard to locate because it's at a high frequency. I had this problem personally when I'd scroll and it drove me nuts trying to find out where it was coming from.

Is the sound coming from your soundcard or somewhere in the system itself? Easiest way to tell is to just turn your volume down :)
