Hi there,

I have recently purchased a Behringer UB802 mixer for my studio. I hooked up my guitar fx unit (Boss GX-700) via the fx send and stereo aux returns.

The problem is when I play my guitar with any kind of distorted patch I get what can only be described as 'thunderous' background noise which is dreadful and drowns out the guitar sound. When I switch to a clean patch there's no noise.

Am I doing something wrong by hooking up the fx this way?

I was hoping to utilise the stereo outs of the fx unit this way rather than using 2 seperate mixer inputs panned left and right.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Guitar Fx processors expect to see an instrument level signal, basically the tiny voltage put out by a guitar pickup, The aux sends on a mixer operate at line level which is quite a bit hotter.

You could probably go : [ Gtr-> Processor-> Aux Returns ]
and still save the channels but you might have noise issues and you wont have channel strip eq and routing options. Best bet is probably to use a stereo channel if your board has one.
