This would be a poll if I knew more about how to do 'em!

So are most of you cassette multi-trackers using the dbx (or dobly, whatever)? Personally, I do. But I always wonder if I should go without. I dunno. I haven't quite got the lo-fi balls to abandon dbx.

Stick with DBX if your machine has it.

It gives you up to 40 db of noise reduction compared th Dolby B offing 10 db at best.

It reduces bleed-through between adjacent tracks.

It reduces distortion by allowing the recording to be done below 0 db, after encoding.

It increases dynamic range.

It extends frequency response in the top end.

It's only drawback is that some instruments which are heavily percussive, might produce some pumping & breathing artifacts after a bounce or two.

Turn the DBX on and leave it that way.
You won't regret it.
