As the title suggests I really have no room to set aside as a mixing room. All are in use save for the garage really and, as much as I 'd like to fully convert it, I'd like to make sure that it (mixing) is something I do well before I get that involved. Usually I only record vocals and and mix with tracks recorded elsewhere by my band and I. Normally I mix with headphones but would like to possibly use monitors... All that said what would be my best option knowing that any room I use will have "stuff" in it?

More of a hunch, but I say use the room with as much "stuff" in it as possible. I heard books make for good bass traps. So do couches.

if you can do some proper treatment, that would be good. every little bit helps. You can make bass traps that blend in with the room. My wife and I have talked about converting some of her paintings in the living room to bass traps to quell the reverb. she's got these huge paintings and the room has high vaulted ceilings. An acoustical nightmare.

Hmmm. Interesting concept! Might just work out best for me if that's the case.I have a 3 bedroom home with those same vaulted ceilings in the living room. Wonder how acoustic treatment affects sleeping?

I read an article recently about the most acoustically dead room in the world. This article detailed how, within a short time, anyone sitting in said room would start to experience hallucinations...
Huh? It doesn't.

I nearly fell up the stairs carrying some 8" rockwool panels.
They were blocking reflections on my left side and totally threw me off balance.

Didn't hallucinate though.

I've seen that video and the other sources, and it is true but that is in a perfectly silent room. Where you can literally hear your blood flowing. Not the same in a bedroom with some acoustic panels

When we sleep, we "dream". I guess some people can call those "hallucinations".

If you work hard and keep reaching for the stars, all of you hallucinations can come true!

I'd hate to accidentally hallucinate I was sleeping and dreaming that I was awake and at work... lol
