NO PLAYBACK on tascam ministudio porta02 mkii HELP PLEASE!

hi. this is my first post. i bought my tascam ministudio porta02 mkii off ebay and was assured it worked properly. My problem is that i set up to record, and all the levels show up in the colored lights, everythings great, but when i play back, i dont hear a thing. I bought type 2 cassettes today, thinking that would solve the problem, but still nothing happens. i know about the output levels and all, so i know its not just a knob that needs to be turned. did i buy a bunk recorder, or can i do something to fix this. I WANT TO RECORD SO BAD! PLEASE HELP ME!

ps, i tried recording on a type 1 cassette last night, and had the same problem, but when i put the tape into my stereo, i heard what i had recorded. so it seems to me its a playback issue on the recorder itself. HELP!

I'm afraid I've experienced problems on this unit where the playback amp blows out. Also, any loose connection within the unit on the headphone or line out jacks could cause a breakpoint in the signal. An indication is if you're playing back with the inputs on "Safe", do the LED meters bounce? That would indicate playback amp is good but maybe the sockets are "jacked". If the meters dont' bounce on playback, would probably indicate a blown playback amp. Chances are this is just a single chip that's blown. Sorry if I can't be more helpful. yeah, no lights light up at all on playback. you dont know of a way i could fix this myself? ive only found one place in my area (nyc) that could do it, and they charge 125 an hour for labor. i think im better off just buying another better one for less than that. but still, im totally broke and just want this one to start working.
