no pauses between tracks?

I'm working on a project and I need to have it so that the end of one track and the beginning of the next track flow into each other - in other words the sound doesn't stop but the track number changes. how can i do this? I know you can set your computer up to put no space between tracks when you burn a CD, but is there a way I can use my audio programs to set up the transition? I have protools LE and cubase SX, is there a way to do this or do I have to do it manually?

You *could* line them up in Cubase or what not, but you'll need a PQ editor for the burn anyway, so put the track markers in at that point.

I've heard that if you burn your tracks as "Disc at Once" it will do just that. It would make your CD without any empty sound assuming there is no silence at the end or beginning of any track.

I use Waveburner Pro on Mac and CD Architect on a PC.

CD architect is a good standlone program for PCs, there are also programs like Wavelab and Sequoia that support processing as well. Most consumer level software will not allow for more advanced PQ editing (placement of index, start of song, pause etc.) which is likely why you are not seeing the option in your software.

I use Roxio also. I love the transition feature! However, since I've switched computers and to XP I've had constant problems with it. I get an error at the end of the burn and the CD's will only play in my computer and no where else.

Lets say your song is 100 bars in length. What I would do is:
Record the first song on track 1 and 2, track 1 being the left and track 2 being the right. Then I would start my "Fade out" at bar 99 and fade out at 100. Then I would import the next song and start the beginning of the song at bar 99 and fade-in from bar 99 to 100. So in effect one song fades directly into the next. You can also make the "fade-in/fade out" longer or shorter by increasing or decreasing the span on your fade-in/fade-out.

You can use wavelab to mount the cd and burn thru there!
the last album i record i didn't have a single moment without sound, and i did all the montage on wavelab and burn the cd trhu there! Try it

I've also been on the lookout for CD burning software for music and data. Right now I'm just using Windows Media Player to create music CDs but for some reason I'm unable to burn data CDs with whatever XP has built in (never detects the blank in the CDRom drive). So the software I'm looking for would have to do both.

But I didn't see my CDR device listed at GoldenHawk's website. It's only 3 or 4 years old. Do you think that could be related to the data CD problem I have? Should I take a chance on the CDRwin working okay?

I meant separately. I'm unable to backup data files to CD.

BTW, is that how I would burn an mp3 CD - copy them as data files to a blank?

If you're just looking to burn data and MP3 CDs and want to save a few bucks, there a piece or freeware out there calle CDBurnerXP Pro that looks and operates in the same class as something like Nero and Roxio. I've been using it on one of my other systems for about 6 months now with a TDK VeloCD 48/10/24 and it has worked flawlessly. Just do a net search for it.

It'll burn basic audio CDs as well, and they have worked fine, but for your pre-master productions I'd stick with something like CD Architect or Wavelab.

FYI: I tried the CDRWin demo. It is fully functional software but only burns at a speed of 1x. It works. However:

1. I could not find any means of setting the gaps between tracks.
2. Windows Media Player 10 would not play the burned CD. Winamp has no problem, nor do standard CD players (so far).

What is "envelope editing and trimming"?

Y'know, I've been using Windows Media Player to test .wav files and burn CDs and have always had a problem playing those CDs on my portable Magnavox player in my car (plugs into cigarette lighter and cassette tape player). But the one I burned with CDRWin played with no problem. Plus I just upgraded to WMP 10.0 and it's even more difficult than ever to use. So it's time for me to move on to something more serious. Can you confirm that CD Architect allows you to set the time gap between tracks? Meanwhile I'll do some searching....

yeah, CD Architect pretty much does it all. you can even plug in effects on each song or the entire CD if you want to do some additional eq'ing... you can use envelopes to set levels, you can overlap songs and do cross fades, add CD test, the works... very good tool...
