It was 23.00, i was in front of the TV and there was nothing particularly interesting so I took my laptop and my little 25 keys on my knees so i put up Discovery Channel and recorded this piece...

Used 2 free soft synths and a heavily modified drum sequence i had on my laptop for pure coincidence...

Check it out and, just after vomiting, leave a little comment :D :D

It is called PROVA BATTERIA.

Thanx!

Oh don't be shy :D

It was just a one-hour thing, so if you hate it it's ok :D

Huh - just had it fade midsong on me - exactly like what skids described in rats' thread - I played hifi through real player.

Wondering - is this 24-bit? I know my RP doesn't always handle that well.

Anyhow, dig the percussion sounds a lot, and the backing track in general - nice little soundscape.

melody synth leaves me cold - cheezy Oktave-Kat sound, aimless uninteresting lines. If you found a better patch, the lack of a compelling melody might not've been a problem. If the line were more interesting, the early-70's cliche patch might not've been a problem. But together, they kinda kill it for me.

I don't mean to be too harsh about it - it's a pleasant enough little background thing. And I really liked the cricket (or cricketesque) sounds pinponging at the beginning.

My suggestion - scrub the front synth and see if the backing track alone inspires you to put something else on it. It's really a cool little vibe:cool:

Sorry, I didn't care for it. Good "drum" sounds, but overall it was a little too repetitive and too ELP for my taste (and I still listen to YES). If you're going to do instrumental, emulate Propellerheads or Swallow or Joe Satriani or Chemical Brothers or Meat Beat Manifesto or Ethyl Meatplow -- I don't know, somebody with a certain amount of elan, cool, avant garde -- je ne sais quoi.

Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but it was just a bit plodding. Not like song number 10 on NIN Downward Spiral, which is in a SOMEWHAT similar vein but really makes you FEEL something. Listen to that song and take note of the difference. If at about :50 you had some techno-type drums come in and flesh the song out, it could have some balls.

Okay, I often forget that this is a MIX forum. I hate that. I wish there was a site where you could just critique structure and "listenability" and shit.

The mix is good, actually, on my system. No real complaints, other than timing on the drums. Not sure if you were going for that effect, but it sound like mistakes. There's a fine line there.

By the way, listened to Capita to get a better feel for your stuff. That's a pretty cool song. I feel like I'm in a free Cuba or something when I listen to it. It's COMPLETELY different from your instrumental. I really enjoyed it. Well produced and mixed.

Now I'm listening to Sweet Home Chicago.

Okay, you have a wide range. Is this the same artist on each song? Sounds like you ripped songs from three different CDs and passed them off as your own. (That's not an accusation, just a commentary on your eclectic style -- I suffer from the same ailment.)

After listening to some of your other music, I have much more respect for your musicianship and "mixmanship." You have some good songs... I just didnt' care for this particular instrumental.

Who's playing the piano on Sweet Home Chicago? Nice. Keep up that stuff and let the weird instrumental go.

Now that NIN reference feels kind of... out of place. Oh, well.

Later.

Eh eh ... thanx for listening to that one...

It's ok i was just playing around, i surely didn't mean it to be a hit :D !

It was mainly a relaxing hour for me, and of course in one hour i really don't expect to have the ideas to put the song together and look for the best instrument and so on...

I guess this will be a song i will develop and use as a base idea for something else.

As for the other songs yes they are all mine, i really like to play different things...

The CAPITA is a song i wrote for a competition here in Italy (i did everything except the singing), Sweet Home Chicago is a rehearsal of my group and in there i played the drums (live) and the organ (post production), the rest is my group playing :D

Anyway thanx again for listening!

Oh more comments are welcome of course...
