hey
i just got a used mixer, its and aries 24x8x16, somehow this company is related to sound craft. Anyways, i have two shure 57's and 58's ,two audio technica 813's and about $5500.What else should i buy to get a basic recording setup?

i also have lots of cables and things lying aroung my house

I would suggest reading some of the guides at the home page, plus doing a search through the forums.

Exactly what you need depends on what type of recording you will be doing. And whether you will be making $$$ from it, and if so how much. Before buying anything try to assemble a list of what you need/want, and budget it out first.

All that being said, I would think that first items on your list would be monitor speakers and an amp for them.

And if you are wanting to use your PC for recording, you need to max the RAM in that puppy (which is SO cheap now) and look at Soundcards with good A/D converters and software that is easy for you to learn on and use. Maybe start by reading the Computer and Soundcards forum above, lots of people using different stuff around here. So far, your list should look like:

1. RAM
2. New soundcard for computer (look for names like Delta, Aardvark, MOTU, Digi, RME, Edirol)
3. Studio Monitors (these can be self-powered, or if not, you need to buy an amplifier also. Examples are names like Genelic, Yorkville, Yamaha, Tannoy, Event, Mackie, etc...)

Oh, and if you really have NO experience, I suggest using a little bit of that cash on a course on the basics at the school closest to you that offers Sound Technology.

dont spend a $$$ until you spend a few weeks here searching and bugging the hell out of us for advice.......
