ok so ive been recording on my PC for about 6 months now and i've gotten to the point where i'm making decent hip hop recordings with what i have i just can't figure out what to get to take my recordings to the next level, both quality and otherwise. currently i am using the Tascam US-122 and MXL 2001 mic with Cubase SX for recording and Reason 2.5 for making beats. I have a new computer and the Audiophile 2496 card on the way, but I don't know where to go now. I have a 10 track Yahama $99 10-track mixer, which isn't that great, but will it work just for recording vocals and maybe some guitar or other instruments later or should I look for a better mixer? Also I know that I need monitors because right now I am using a home theater reciever and speakers for monitoring and the levels and quality on the mixes are not coming out the way they sound when I actually record them. What monitors do you recommend on a lower budget (say around 150-250) and should I go active or should i go passive and get an amp. Whats the sound quality difference? Once I get the monitors, what's the next step? I realize that there's no blueprint or process set in stone for this but I'm just curious as to how everybody else did it. Thanks for your time
