Newbology 101...

Hello ...I am a newb to home recording in general. I run through a Zoom 606 pedal straight into my mic jack, and use CEP and Fruity Loops just to work on ideas so i won't go nuts.

This is my problem...I have the EQ on my pedal zeroed out, but it's still like MEGA-BASS coming thru my comp, and on the guitar tracks when i play them back. I can turn the bass down on my speakers or my PC's EQ, but then the drum tracks i've recorded have no bass at all. Any suggestions on how to solve this?

turn the mids and highs up on eq......then record at lower volume 'cause you should be getter more highs and mids....that might work

If I turn the bass down, the drums and anything else i listen to has no bass at all, but the guitar sounds normal....turn the bass up to where the drums and other wavs sound normal, and the guitar is just mush.

If I could eq the wav's and mic input seperately, that would probably solve my problem. Would plugging in through the 'line in' make a difference?

im guessing your zoom has a headphone out? if it does get a cable so u can plug it straight into your line in, sort out the levels and it will sound much better

Well, the Zoom 606 output is a line output, so you should put it in the line in.

You need to keep your monitoring as accurate as possible. Tweaking the EQ there will usually make things worse. Then again, PC monitors is not exactly ideal from the start, but, that's another issue.

If one of your sounds need EQing, you need to adjust that sound. Not the overall EQ, since that will affect everything, and definitely not the monitoring EQ, since that will affect nothing, except what you hear.

Thanks again for the replies...I forgot to mention that the link in my sig is to a myspace page with the stuff i've done so far.

I did run it to the line-in last night but didn't really have time to mess with it...it did seem to sound a bit better though. I think that if I mess with all my levels and tweak the zoom (even though the eq is already off) I may be able to get to a happy medium. I'm also guessing that having a comp dedicated to recording, and having the levels adjusted accordingly, would be the smart thing to do.

I've been reading around this site and it's obvious that most are light years ahead of me in knowledge of equipment and technique, so i appreciate you guys taking the time to help this newb out.
