before buying expensive multitracking software try the one i have used for years. a new version of powertracks version 9 has just come out.
it really has everything one needs to do a song including a new ability to do vocal and other harmonies using tc helicon. heres a run down of what 29 bucks buys you .....
1. 48 digital audio tracks, including 24 bit if you want to use it.
2, a superb midi sequencer, way more than i ever need including notation editing etc
3. tons of built in effects so you dont have to buy plug ins.
4. track editing is superb
5. superrb capability to build rhythm midi tracks
any way this is just a taste of this deep package.
just give the demo a try or talk to some users on the pgmusic.com forums
if you dont believe me. even if you use another pkge STILL try this one due to the built in effects capability that adds lots of fx to your arsenal of toys.
im in no way affiliated with the company - just a happy user.
in my opinion what you save buying this package will let you buy a better sound card. peace.

Hey manning1...I am very new to recording with the computer. I did get version 8 of PowerTracks a few months ago, recorded a song, and am very satified with the software. (I even posted a message about a month ago to alert people to the July special price, which it appears they are continuing). I am contemplating getting version 9, but version 8 seems to have everything I need. Can you tell me any big differences between 8 and 9 (besides that 9 adds the abilty to add harmonies). Thanks for any information.

sorry for late reply. been away flying/visiting family..
re diffs between 8 and 9 the pg web site has a full list of features/updates in 9. also ive been checking the user forum regularly.
i'm still on 8 myself. been too busy to upgrade yet.
i'm very very happy with 8. prolly a family member normally buys me the new vers for a stocking stuffer. so i'm waiting for december.
i normally give my old versions to someone showing a recording interest in my friends.
a tip - try singing a lead vocal twice in powertracks then on one of the vocal tracks experiment with adding an effect using the built in chorus/rvb/echo fx and mix it in with the other dry vocal track.
you can get some interesting results.
