hey guys want to begin learning the art of recording. have a casio wk500, alesis multi mix 16 usb 2.0 mixer/audio interface, alesis 16:8 drum machine a pre amp and compression unit running thru hp p6000 computer. at the moment one off the monitors is down and i am using headphones. the programme on the hard drive is audacity and basically i am starting from the beginning. all my previous recordings have been done at studios around perth and now that i have the gear would like to do this myself. need to start right from the beginning if anyone can help mentor be much appreciated
 
First, you might want to consider using Reaper as your DAW. It's free to download and try out. REAPER | Audio Production Without Limits
Then start reading all the threads here. There's tons of knowledge shared. "Home" recording, like anything else takes dedicated time and practice- but don't forget to have fun, too! Welcome!
 
I'm fairly new to this and started using Reaper as suggested. I found the downloadable manual chock full of info, but hard to digest at first. Note that there are two files that form the sample project in Reaper that the manual discusses. I found that, as I read the manual, I could perform all the examples in Reaper as I went along. It made it a great deal more interesting and informative. By the end of Chapter 3, I felt like I was getting a grip on recording.

Reaper will do the trick, and the manual has all the answers... know from experience.
